If you ever are in the situation, instead of being selfish and acting with no foresight to protect your own feelings, keep your daughter in mind. Also, consider the fact that if they kill you, they're substantially more likely to kill her as well.

It's no where near certain one or two gunshots is going to bring the cops in. It's far more likely it'd be ignored or that no one would even hear it well enough to identify it.
