You're own ******* fault for not taking Weapon Finesse and adding your Dex modifier to melee damage rolls instead of Str. And as a ******* rogue I would hope you would atleast have a +3 in Dex.

Do you even D&D?

I'm still new to D&D, but I will definitely be taking that on my next level.
Thanks for that tip, my Dex is a +4.
My DM probably suggested that to me, early on, and I was dumb enough to not take it.

Don't be afraid to use a hand crossbow or a shortbow until you get Weapon Finesse. You'll end up doing a bit more anyway. and ALWAYS utilize sneak attack. I bet you're not alone in this group. Look up flanking. ANY time an enemy would be denied his dex bonus to AC (AKA, being "Flat-footed") it's a sneak attack.

Don't be afraid to fight dirty.

Pocket sand, man. It's saved me. I have literally carried pockets of sand through entire campaigns. And I always had a femur on a rope. Always. That **** came in handy more times than I care to admit.

I do have a bow, luckily.
And I think I'll use that pocket sand idea.
Not sure if my DM will admire the idea and laugh himself half to death
or
if he'll admire the idea and begin plotting to kill me so I don't pull **** like that again.

Dude, D&D is all about outsmarting the DM. As soon as you use pocket sand, he'll try to take precautions about it. Just make sure you have good setups for it. A great thing to do when you're first starting out (and this seems obvious, but it's not to some people), read both the players handbook AND the Dungeon Master's Guide. You get in depth looks at rules, and gameplay mechanics. That way you know what you can and can't do.

Just remember. Carry Rope with a femur on it, and carry rocks. People will laugh at you. But not when you need to draw somethings attention away for a sneak attack, or when you need a makeshift grappling hook.

Thanks for the tips.

I can't wait to try the pocket sand one.
The grappling hook should come in handy, as well.

I managed to do over 130 damage with my rogue/assassin the enemy died without knowing why, dual wielding hand crossbows with hidden blade skilltrick and mosquito bite skilltrick. Hidden blade allows you to render a target flat footed if you roll sleight of hand higher than opponents spot and mosquito bite lets you decide if you want the enemy to realize that he's been struck by a light weapon. I once punched a guy into a coma like that, hilarious ****
User avatar #6 to #4 - volcanicdiarrhea [OP](07/24/2014) [-]
Now that sounds interesting.
I actually got an additional +3 to my Sleight of Hand when rolling my character background, so that will help.
#7 to #6 - railyeightseven (07/24/2014) [-]
read the rules though you need 12 points in sleight of hand to pick it up and you have to sacrifice 2 skill points to get it
User avatar #9 to #7 - volcanicdiarrhea [OP](07/24/2014) [-]
It totals up to +9, right now, so it will take some time.

I just did a little reading, but I'm not sure if this works.
From my character background, I have 3 bonus ranks to Sleight of Hand.
I know I can only put ranks into a skill equal to my current level, but does that count the bonus ranks? Or can I put 4 ranks into it, and still have the bonus 3 for a total of 7 ranks?
#10 to #9 - railyeightseven (07/24/2014) [-]
lets say you have +4 dex that gives 4 sleight of hand if you're level 3 you can have 2 or 3 skill points over your level try to find that I forgot, so basically 4+3(background)+5 or 6 ( lvl 3 +2/3 = 5/6) that adds up to 12/13 sleight of hand at level 3

What zodiacwolf said, plus:
- attack with daggers without Weapon Finesse : dude, switch to a short sword, rapier or anything that uses a d6 until you have that feat
- attacking as rogue, while enemy is his dex bonus to AC: you really want to set up your enemy so you can start adding your sneak attack. Flank, blind, sneak up on your opponent, carry around marbles (3e Arms & Armor Guide) or Lamp Oil => "Balancing", most enemies have no 5 ranks in Tumble
- attacking a halberd wielding enemy => at this point, as a rogue, you should probably switch to your shortbow and stay out of his Reach

Man, I haven't played 3.5 since 4e came out.
I do miss it.

Please do tell us what feats you did take.
User avatar #11 to #3 - zodiacwolf (07/26/2014) [-]
Dude 3.5 is the only D&D I'll play. Aside from that I play Harnmaster
