Actually I do works, the question is, do you? You are not, nor
can you possibly be, genetically meant to be a squirrel. Recombinant Squirrel
DNA would not bend with Human DNA, the between
genomes would fail simply due the lack of compatible bonding receptors
alone, even if yen did somehow manage get a bonding to take youtue only
succeed in creating a blastosie mum that would tie nothing to actually make
you a squirrel. I can buy the whole 'spiritual relation' to squirrels and believing
you meted have been bent one, but genetically yee’ re just as human as the rest
of us. Also, as who identifies as - commonly called bearman

a taste for squirrel. ..

Okay....I'm not saying these 'kin's are an outright mental illness but there has to be some kind of deficiency in these people to make them so unbelievably ******* stupid and ridiculous....

Their parents need to see these and organise therapy because it's just sad now

Even as a furry, I am embarrassed for these kin people. It's fun to make a sona, but that kin stuff is kinda overdoing it a tad too much.

Why would they practice to be special when it's so much easier to stand out by pretending to have a mental illness about being part some other species? They clearly revel in the negative attention they receive from it.

Most of them will grow out of it though, they're on tumblr and realize how rude it is to be straight/white so create new genders/sexualities to invalidate their "privilege" and have a source of victimization to blame when life isn't easy.

I always thought that the kin thing was a sign of self hatred. I remember wishing that I was anyone else other than myself when I was suffering from MDD. Doctor diagnosed, not tumblr-style self diagnosed. I got medicated and treated. I never let the fantasy get to the same level that the other kin have it at, but it was nice at the time to imagine that I was someone important or at least functional.
User avatar #19 to #4 - anonmuncher (12/13/2015) [-]
People like the ones listed above tend to be neurotic attention seekers that lie through their teeth for so long about it that they start to believe their own ******** . They're most frequently seen on tumblr where all the other special snowflakes have a circle jerk over who can be the most special.

People who are actually serious about the otherkin community usually fall into two categories: Mental, or Spiritual. People with a mental identity tend to describe it as a variant of disassociative identity disorder (multiple personalities), or body dysmorphia (feeling like you're born into the wrong body/phantom limb syndrome). People who have a spiritual identity are closer to like... feeling as though they have a spirit guide or another soul guiding them.
#30 to #4 - anon (12/13/2015) [-]
It's a societal deficiency, in my opinion. They're spoiled brats who feel the need to make up false identities so they can feel unique and special and victimized.
User avatar #13 - bulwark (12/13/2015) [-]
I used to be more or less involved with the whole "kin" community, waaaaay before it took over like this as in, before Tumblr was a thing. We're talking 05-06.

A lot of these people are insane, in the very literal sense. Most, like myself, realize how retarded it is when reaching adulthood, but some of them keep at it.

I remember one crazy bitch in particular, who wholeheartedly believed she could actually physically transform her body into that of her kin type. I am not even kidding here.

It's like watching people come up with a fanfic character based on themselves. Suddenly, somebody who was a dragonkin yesterday, finds out he is also part psychic vampire.

But the best ones, were the ones who would write long ass posts and stories about how they used to be the godking of some ancient race or that they're the chosen one, who is half-demon and will be on the frontlines at the final fight for earth.

You can't make this **** up...
User avatar #18 to #13 - anonmuncher (12/13/2015) [-]
I recently left the kin community. I was pretty actively involved in the less fluffy facebook groups where people actively kicked out those who claimed to physically shift, or who were really ******* stupid about their kin types ("Look at me! I'm an albino dire wolf who is the alpha of the super blood moon fang pack!").

They tried to snuff out as much misinformation as possible. The admins would always grill people on how they found out about their identity so make sure there weren't any retarded preteens going through their "chuunibyou" phase. We even had a marine biologist as an admin who got involved with studies to show that it's more or less similar to disassociative identity disorder or body dysmorphia. There were always a ******* of wolves who came in thinking they were super edgy alphas. Don't know how many times everyone had to beat it into their brains that wolves don't even live in packs outside of captivity, let alone that the "lone wolf" stereotype isn't based on actual wolf behavior.

I'd be lying if I said I don't still feel a connection to my kintype, but it's more of a spiritual feeling than anything, I wouldn't expect anyone to believe or support it any more than I'd expect them to do so with my religious/spiritual beliefs. The tumblr community on the other hand is a ******* cancer that needs to die in a fiery explosion.
User avatar #22 to #18 - bulwark (12/13/2015) [-]
Damn, I would have loved to see that kind of community back in my days. Because dear god, I have witnessed some ******** .

I the end though, I don't really hate otherkin people, since it's an ancient thing going back to some of the first humans, not to mention native americans. So it would be wrong to condemn it as some sickness. Some people just need to keep it on the downlow.
User avatar #41 to #22 - anonmuncher (12/13/2015) [-]
Trust me, even with the admins trying to get a grip on the group, having ******** pour in was an almost daily occurrence. I was in probably the three biggest otherkin/therian groups on Facebook (that weren't open groups), and even with the best people on board trying to weed out the fluff, there's really no way to avoid all of it.

There was one girl who used to be an admin, not one of the lead admins but still a higher up for the length of time she was in the community, and she used to be fairly nice (albeit a little bit crazy). She was a dedicated Christian, and was a "wolf", but then one day she suddenly turned on a dime and was like "I AM A SUCCUBUS DEMON FROM A PAST LIFE, I AM ALL POWERFUL. I AM AMAZING, MY HORNS ARE SO LONG, I'M SO SEXY.", and then she got banned from every group because **** that **** . I really wish that there were more "experienced" members in the community that actively try to snuff that **** out before it gets out of hand. There's a surprising number of people who've been online since the late 90s, they're usually the ones who actually know what they're talking about instead of growing a god complex, but they've realised how downhill the community has gone and they choose to avoid it like the plague.
User avatar #43 to #41 - bulwark (12/13/2015) [-]
Damn **** . What was that group called? I was a member of one community on Facebook for a short while before dropping out of it. Use to hang on various sites like this one - therian-wilderness.proboards.com/ before it changed name. Hell, that was when people still used Therian to describe it, rather than otherkin.

I am just really glad I stopped with it before it ended up on Tumblr level stupidity.
User avatar #52 to #43 - anonmuncher (12/13/2015) [-]
Ahhh.... **** ... let me see if I can figure it out.

The main ones that I was involved with were:
Therians and Otherkin
Therianthropy (Serious Debate & Discussion Group)
therian chat

It's been so long since I've been on the account that I used for those groups that I can't remember which one was which. I know the serious debate group was definitely one of the good ones, but I can't remember if it was therian chat or Therians and Otherkin that was the other relatively serious one.

If you ever ran into a chick named Seraphyna during your brief stay, she was the biologist I mentioned. She was cool as **** . Even when I first joined, she verbally beat the **** out of me to make sure that I wasn't some toxic tumblr-bred preteen, and thank god for that. I had some fluffy-ish opinions in the beginning but it's cause I was like 15 when I first found out about the online community. Now that I'm almost 20, I realize I was a bit retarded back then and I'm glad I was corrected.
#26 to #18 - anon (12/13/2015) [-]
But.. wolves do live in packs.
It's been documented so many times over I don't get why anyone would think they don't.
Literally every study of wolves includes their pack hierarchy and what role each member plays.
The lone wolf stereotype comes from when one male is ousted from his pack and either has to find a pack to take over or be accepted into or to somehow start his own, otherwise he will just waste away and die.

So although wolves do mostly live in packs, the lone wolf stereotype does have some basis in wolf behaviour.
You say you guys used to try and stop the spread of misinformation and then try to tell people wolves don't live in packs.
Okay.
User avatar #39 to #26 - anonmuncher (12/13/2015) [-]
Wolf packs are family units that consist of the parents and their pups (until the pups get old enough to go off on their own and create their own packs). There is a misinformed idea that packs mean there is a hierarchy that contain Alpha/Beta/Omega/etc wolves, and that simply isn't the case. The only time that wolf packs such as those form is when they take a group of wolves from the wild and force them into the same enclosure. They are not family, they didn't grow up together as one, so they enforce roles based on the most dominant wolves. In the wild, male wolves would never willingly live in large groups together, so that type of hierarchy is never seen unless the study is made on captive wolves.

If I wasn't comprehensive enough, have an actual article: io9.com/why-everything-you-know-about-wolf-packs-is-wrong-502754629?utm_expid=66866090-68.Rvuykf2qT9qOAx_axtw3_w.0&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.ca%2F

Wolves hunt in packs!
#34 to #26 - anon (12/13/2015) [-]
Wolves do live in packs but the alpha/beta/omega etc stuff is based on a study of a group of solely male wolves in a very poor zoo habitat, where they formed those dynamics. In a real pack, the wolves are mixed genders and are ruled by the mother and father as they're all related. New packs bud off of the original one as the teen males grow up and start sneaking around with other packs.
