I mean it's obviously a clock. You would have to be crazy to think it could possible be anything otherwise. What middleschool elementary teacher doesn't know her basic circuits and redundant wiring schematics that separate a clock from a bomb?
Sarcasm. Kid ran a scam probably put up to it by his parents so they could claim racism and get money. Also convenient how they are back in dubai or quatar or wherever trying to sue now
User avatar #20 to #16 - abesimpson (11/30/2015) [-]
"Omg it's a bomb! Everyone run"

"Hey that's so racist. Did you even bother to inspect the circuit board before deciding it was an immediate threat to your life and everyone else's? I'm suing you because I'm Arabic and offended you thought I made a bomb just because I brought a box full of wires and a timer. Now gimme 15 million"
User avatar #23 to #20 - lean (11/30/2015) [-]
Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but the teacher confiscated the clock and involved the school administrators and authorities. She did not know what it was other than it looked like a bomb. Would you inspect a potential bomb with 0 knowledge of explosives?? didn't think so. The authorities brought the kid in, and decided not to charge him with anything, because it was just a clock.

Let's do an experiment. Have a white guy try to carry that clock through airport security. Do you think he will be able to count the knuckles during his cavity search? Is that racism? I can't imagine a scenario where any kid with that at school wouldn't face scrutiny, regardless of race. I think its more racist to claim it as racism when the reality is he made a briefcase clock that looks like a bomb from any hollywood bruce willis movie. You might think people overreacted, but the racial aspect isn't even part of the story until the news made it one.

No no, I'm totally on board with you. That why emphasised that he made a ******* box with wires and a timer! I would have totally **** my pants even though the perpetrator is an innocent looking nerdy kid. For ***** sakes what has the world come to that its trying to make fear and political correctnes compatible when it's clearly not.

No one got sued when a kid was expelled for eating a poptart, but for the first time they identified something that could be an actual threat and they are getting sued for doing the correct thing.

I didn't really do research on it but I had heard the clock was also counting down? I would hope that's not the case because if that's true there's no way people wouldn't think it's a ******* bomb.

he got in trouble for bringing a FAKE bomb, not for a real one. thats why he was in so much trouble.

Neither, the school has a 0 tolerance policy where even a kid making pew pew noises while pointing g at another kid forces staff to call the cops. The teachers do not have discretion here, they did what they would have done if some kid had a weirdly shaped poptart that be nibbled into a gunshape, these people, with this system, sent a kid to school, whos Older sister who went to that same school made many bomb threats bad to take the kid with the metaphorical ticking box, who has a history of causing trouble/pranks seriously. This case is as easy to spot as 1 + 1 = 2, and are sewing because 2 is racist
User avatar #14 to #13 - sanitarysan ONLINE (11/30/2015) [-]
schools have certainly changed...
User avatar #33 to #11 - megaton (11/30/2015) [-]
well no one claimed he had a bomb. but his older sister continuously made bomb threats on schools and got suspended from her own school for it. in his first class he showed it to his teacher and she told him to put it away because it looks like a bomb and the kid decided to not listen to her. he also knew that it looked like a bomb before he got to school as he stated himself in an interview. the police were called on him for trying to perpetrating a hoax, not for having a bomb. in general he was an asshole for doing what he did but then it was blown out of proportions

That's pretty much the best way to describe America's legal system, aside from "exploitable" and "hole-riddled".

he won't sue because if he does the truth of his actions will be brought to light. Do you really think the school board is going to fork over 15 million without a very serious investigation? Honestly if he tries he'll just get crushed with lawyers fees and having it made abundantly clear to the public that he's full of ****
#4 to #3 - imho (11/30/2015) [-]
hell, the school might even countersue him for all the horrible publicity over a stupid cash grab. He'd be ******
User avatar #5 to #4 - bugman (11/30/2015) [-]
And whichever college said they'd pay his tuition would be well within their rights to revoke that.
#6 to #5 - imho (11/30/2015) [-]

User avatar #43 to #3 - lean (11/30/2015) [-]
First- the family moved back to Quatar or wherever. It costs them nothing to sue, with the publicity the case was probably pro bono by some legal boneheads.

Second- The school district should cut their losses, sack the teacher for like a $500 k severence, teacher is happy and ahmed's lawyers have to recourse. Cheapest route in general. The hiring of a legal team will be well over $1,000,000 for something like this.
#54 to #43 - imho (12/01/2015) [-]
True if they can find someone to do it pro-bono, but I heard that the family already has a lawyer on their payroll so I assumed they would just use him
The school could cut their losses but if they do defend themselves in court and win they could easily get their money back by counter suing him
User avatar #55 to #54 - lean (12/01/2015) [-]
Yeah, im just saying its going to be the better part of a million bucks in pre trial hearings. To front up that kind of dough on a chance that they win THEN do it again in a counter suit is quite a gamble. Without a doubt this settles out of court, kids family gets a big payday. They will probably walk with 2-3 million, no court.

if you used any common sense, youd know that its the ******** dad that wants it. the kid is completely fine without it
User avatar #27 to #26 - jzwangpk (11/30/2015) [-]
I know it's the parents, not the kid. If you used any common sense you'd see that I'm just pointing out that the media attention from the $15m thing is why people are suddenly paying attention to the kid again.
User avatar #28 to #27 - bananeurysm (11/30/2015) [-]

No major news network that supported this little **** stain in the past will expose his scam or talk bad about him because it would harm their reputation. So like you said, I'm sure America is going to cough up the money.

Holy **** just look at his stupid dopey face and his faggot NASA t-shirt. He's tricked an entire COUNTRY and now he's going to get more money than the majority of working people earn in their whole ******* lifetime. Someone wake me up.

I'm sorry for the salt, I'll pipe down now.

Someone photoshop that cartoon from the PBS Reading Library show with the Cliffhanger segment. Except it is Ahmed hanging by a cliff constructing a clock from the instructions of his pocket survival guide.
