And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” - Mark 12:28-31
Basically that. I'm supposed to treat you as good or better than I treat myself. Even if I don't agree with all the actions you take, I still need to follow that commandment. I'm seriously surprised how many of us overlook this, considering the main guy literally said these are the two biggest commandments.
I just don't like the idea of being ordered to love, call me fedoratipper all you want but goodness, kindness and love should not be prompted or demanded by anyone from anyone to anyone. It should come from within yourself, not from being told what to do.
This is really directed towards other Christians, so I'm really not preaching at you or anything. But if you want the Christian stance on the issue, we believe that humans are naturally selfish, so any love that we have will ultimately be self-serving in nature. God commands us to love because He wants us to grow closer to Him, so we can show His unconditional, unselfish, sacrificial love to others, rather than our own, inadequate love.
Also don't feel bad about expressing your opinions on an issue as long as it's done respectfully, if I can't handle that it's my problem not yours.
Nope, Satan is the one who says man isn't worth saving, GOD found a way from HIS Love to keep us throughout eternity, with HIM by cleansing us of our every little sin through the sacrifice of Jesus. Our inequities paid for with HIS stripes, because we are not perfect. Evil people who ally themselves with the devil still land in the Pit with the devil.
Gonna be a straight up buzz killington here.
Firstly 'flipping over tables and chasing people with a whip' is a bit of a simplification of what was actually going on there. Though I can at least credit the fact that it doesn't saying he actually whipped people, since that's something he didn't do. At worst you can make the argument for intimidation. At best, some accounts and translation say there was no whip at all, which would make the most sense, given how many times he says not to be violent.
Second, you have to understand, these temples were meant for non-Jews. Basically the area he was cleansing was meant for gentiles, but pharisees and other such people were instead using it to cheat people and sell **** . BAsically he was driving these people out so nonJews could use the temple for, you know, worship.
was talking at church about how buff jesus had to be. one, those werent tiny folding tables, they were huge and wooden, and he just flipped them. i imagine he just back handed it and it went flying against a wall somewhere. on top of that, he was a carpenter, no power tools, no trucks, all manual. you ever notice when he was flipping tables and whipping animals, no one tried to stop him? cause they were TERRIFIED
