Kraken
Possibly the most famous sea monster. The kraken is a creature from norwegian fishermen's tales, which tells of a creature as large as an island, capable of dragging whole ships down into Davy Jones' locker. While today normally thought of as a giant ocopus, it was originally thought to be something like a giant sea star. Or a crab, that could sink ships by ascending and diving, causing maelstroms as it did.
Some stories tell of how one could actually "fish on the kraken". It was thought to be feeding for a few months, then sleep, and while asleep, it would poop, which atracted more fish for it to eat the next time it woke up. Thus meanwhile, you could fish over it, just be careful when you do it.
Kunekune
A japanese urban legend. The kunekune looks like a white, long, slender paper mannequin, with limbs that constantly wiggle. It mostly appears in fields, and on rare occasion over the sea, but it also appears in cities, were it is pitch black instead of white.
While safe to look at from a distance, should one approach it, one would go insane. And if you actually were to touch it, it would kill you. Several creepy pasta stories tell of people who have met it, usually with a family member in mental hospital as result.

Typhon
The greatest monster in greek mythology. Typhon was the last son of Gaia and Tartarus, born with the purpose of punishing Zeus for defeating the titans. Typhon was described as having a human torso with numerous vipers instead of legs, a hundred dragon heads (or a human one, with sepents as fingers), wings all over his body, and was as tall as the sky itself, his arms reaching east and west. He also had storm powers, making him a storm deity.
He nearly destroyed Olympus all by himself. Only Zeus even dared to fight him. Losing their first match, after Hermes healed him, Zeus fought Typhon again, and this time trapped him under Mount Etna were he remained. Before this though, together with his wife Echidna, Typhon had gained the title of "the father of monsters", Cerberus and the Nemeon Lion being 2 of their children.
Babi Ngepet
In javanese mythology, it was possible to use black magic in order to gain wealth. This was done by becoming a Babi Ngepet, a boar demon. Looking like a normal person during the day, at night this person would dress in black robes and transform into a boar creature. While tranformed, it would scratch against houses in the village, which magically steals all the wealth inside. When it returned home and changed back, all the wealth it stole would be in the robes.
While out on it's nightly walk, it needed another person to guard a candle inside it's house. If the candle is shaking, fading or almost out, it meant the Babi Ngepet was in danger, and needed help from it's loyal servant.

Cthulhu
The iconic being from H.P Lovecraft's work. Cthulhu is one of many poweful cosmic entities, whose existance alone is beyond human comprehension, known as the Great Old Ones. Cthulhu was described as a giant groteque creature, with a human body, large dragon wings on his back, a whole octopus as his head, and with green scaley skin.
He came to earth long ago, along with others, but at one point entered a dreamless sleep in the city R'lyeh, which sank to the bottom of the pacific ocean. Right before this he had telepathically influenced some of the first humans, which lead to the creation of the cults that worship him. All these cults wait for the time when "the stars are right", the time when Cthulhu would awaken and reclaim his rule of our world, in which chaos and madness will be all that is. He may or may not wipe out all of mankind when he awakens, showing his cultists "mercy" by killing them painfree.

Done. Hope you enjoyed. Got any requests for future comp of monsters or the dead? Feel free to share them.
I post a comp every weekend (that's at least what I'm supposed to)
Don't forget to check out the previous comps as well.
Also: While Cthulhu isn't a creature from an actual culture which these comps are about, people requested him, and I'm guessing you don't really care.
