I studied art for around 5 years, got a BTEC triple distinction and a 2.1 degree in Art and Design.
I now get all my funds from drawing furry fap fodder online and doing pin up images of dinosaur cocks for Exotic-Erotics. My parents must be so proud.

Rough sketches will run you from $5 to $15 USD depending on complexity.
Smooth sketches are from $20 up to $50 with very high complexity (lots of different figures, extreme detail, etc)
Line art is $25 up to $80 again depending on the complexity

That Beardog head up there is a good example of a quick $5 roughie.

Practice, practice, practice. After six grueling hours I did this, my first piece of digital art. I'm ******* proud despite its flaws. Also remember to paint/draw in layers.

Invest in a cheap Monoprice tablet and keep at it -- the more you do the better your muscle memory and spatial reasoning will be.

I'd also like to add that don't practice mindlessly, make conscious decisions. Why did you place that line there for example. Also, use LOTS of reference! You can't draw a person if you don't know what one looks like. Learn from others and constantly find ways to improve. You can easily practice everyday and only get a little bit better after even 20 years practicing same as how I never got any better at playing counter-strike because I just mindlessly played. 500+ hours didn't make a difference without consistent practice and ACTUAL effort to improve. As long as you're active and finding way to get better you will find your place. Also, look up the gnomon workshop. A really great resource that I'm using right now with my 3d work. Good luck!
