why did we need to know that
User avatar #75 to #2 - amusingusername (05/23/2015) [-]
Scientists only gather all the knowledge they can about the subject they are studying, no matter how relevant it might seem. What to do with that knowledge is up to other areas.
User avatar #73 to #2 - perform (05/23/2015) [-]
Because it can correlate to the sleeping patterns of very related animals and maybe why they're extinct. If you sleep during the afternoon when other predators are active, that might be why you're dead.

I have no ******* clue I'm not a scientist.
#55 to #2 - anon (05/23/2015) [-]
erm... because science is a collection of knowledge, not a collection of knowledge that you deem necessary
User avatar #11 to #2 - anonymoose (05/22/2015) [-]
In case there's a flightless bird related emergency in the Afternoon, we shouldn't try and get penguins because they're in a deeper sleep.

So when those bastards attack, we will know their weaknesses and have the element of surprise!

there's lots of things you don't need to know, for example that old people are sexually active to a larger degree than that of newlyweds

I did a study measuring the effects of EDCs on alligator's sexual development. Essentially, we pulled juvenile male alligators out of the water and tickled their bellies so that we could measure the length of their boners. What a life I have, haha.

And I am protecting their right to NOT be negatively effected by endocrine disrupting chemicals that are forced upon them by the human race by studying these effects so that we might better control the extent to which we use these chemicals in the production of food and other commodities.

And I know you're joking, speedy turtle, but as a turtle I feel as though you should take the health of your alligator brethren's dicks more seriously :'(

We're all in the same pond.

For that particular experiment exactly, not a whole lot probably. Most of the expenses typically go into maintaining the ice stations where the researchers live (which are the closest we'll get to permanent human settlement in Antarctica).

I have to think about it every day. Otherwise i lose my research grant.

Here's hoping we can isolate for some good predictors for high sctivity level and it's relationship with frequency of courtship, success of mounting, and offspring health. otherwise, i have been spending 40 hours a week staring at fly porking for nothing o.o
