I got a big gripe with the first order stormtroopers, it is established by Fin early on that all the troopers are brainwashed innocents, taken from their parents, you can't even hide behind the "They're clones" excuse, like you can with the 501st, instead, they literally kill millions of people with a hope for redemption because pfeh, resistance always wins

I want to know why it was so easy for Finn to switch sides when everyone is apparently brainwashed. Like if it's so easy to overcome all of that brainwashing on his first mission, why do we not see any other troopers at least struggling?

Phasma mentions near the beginning of the movie that stormtroopers that disobey orders undergo "reconditioning", so the brainwashing is obviously not foolproof if it has happened several times before.

Well yeah but we don't actually see any struggle or anything, he just completely switches sides in the span of 5 minutes, that's not something that happens to someone who has been brainwashed. It would have been far more convincing if they spent a little more time on it showing him actually dealing with it but trying to hide it from the others (more than two scenes where he doesn't shoot and then takes off his helmet).

so were the stormtroopers on the first death star. a few of them actually thought about deserting after alderaan, hell i think a few that weren't on the death star actually did as well.

Yeah let's waste time gathering up loyal brainwashed soldiers just for the chance of turning em to our side.

It's not about that, it's about how clearly possible it is for the brainwashing to fail (Phasma selling out the new death star, Finn switching, obvious need for "reconditioning") but they have made it clear that these people could possibly be saved, they've made it abundantly clear that they are little more than slaves, with families they never got the chance to know, and then they just blow them the **** up like "eh, whatever"

Remember, kids, it's OK to be a mass-murdering psychopath and/or terrorist as long as you're the main character and people like you.

>>#161, >>#83, >>#45,
Okay so I was browsing the wiki and it turns out I misspoke, at one point he was on a mission to attack a Resistance base and he threw a grenade into it, blowing it up, so he is a scumbag terrorist, but he made up for it so it's k now.
Also, fun fact, the trooper that died on Jakku that #triggered Finn was basically his bestfriend designation FN-2003 aka "Slip"

Dude, idk if you've watched it, but I'm watching the Clone Wars episode where the 501st arrest General Krell. Badass

I could have swore he killed a couple of people before realizing what he was doing...

If I remember correctly the first we saw of him(while with his helmet on) was when the trooper that got shot wiped the blood on his helmet, then he was basically freaking out the entire time. I'm drawing a blank if, on the part where Kylo tells the Phasma to kill the rest of the village, he shot his rifle, but if he did we didn't see him shoot anyone. He could've shot on the ground.

he shot and killed several storm troopers with a tie fighter and blaster rifle...and lightsabered one trooper. All technically innocent people since they were kidnapped and brainwashed

Oh, ok so if a brainwashed ISIL soldier was shooting at you and you are armed, you'd just stand there waiting for him to kill you, because he is only brainwashed innocent.
Right?

I'm referring to when he was a trooper. Obviously he killed people in the movie
