In japanese dark-type is called "evil", so the ones who beat them is "justice" and "good".
Fighting is good and justice beacuse they never use cheap tricks.
Bug is good and justice beacuse of the history Japan has with TV-shows with bug-looking heros fighting for justice.
Fairy is good beacuse gay-ass rainbows and ****.

Hope that clears it up

Alternatively, the scenario goes as such.
Dark type attacks are, by majority, attacks that aim to trick and cheat, rather than the whole "shadow energy" theme they have now. Attacks like Dark Pulse were the exception rather than the rule. Dark pokemon are terrifying, evil bastards known to always be thinking of something cruel to do.

Generally, we can summarize the following types (dark/ghost/bug/fighting/psychic/steel) by listing generic traits they have.

Dark - Terrifying Pokemon who think cruel thoughts and cheat when able.
Ghost - Mischevious pranksters with a taste for Life energy.
Bug - The most alien creatures, think Hive Minds.
Fighting - Martial Artists who seek to rule their body at expense of all else.
Psychic - Mind readers, fortune tellers and the like.
Steel - Robots (PIERCE THE HEAVENS WITH YOUR DRILLBUR)

So the reaction between them goes a little like this, in my mind. (More to Follow cuz Im bored and love type matchups)

Dark hits Psychic for SE damage because its all about fear tactics. Knowing whats coming, the terrible things this Pokemon will do to you, certainly won't help. Ghosts suffer too, because while they can be mean, they're in the kiddy league when it comes to the cruelty game. Dark can't trick a martial artist though. Try and trip up a martial artist, see what happens. Think all the nasty thoughts you want, he's gonna punch you in the face. Steel is much the same. Beep-Boop, here-to-do-my-job, beat-you-to-a-pulp. Can't scare what doesn't think.

Ghost hits itself well, because not much else exists in the spirit realm. Sucking life energy from the living or stealing the ghostly energy of your undead foe, its still just basic life-force stuff. It hits Psychic hard for much the same reason Dark does, the fear tactic works especially well on Mind Readers. Ghost isn't at good at it as dark though, which is why it suffers at the hands of true evil. Finally, robots-continue-to-be-immune-to-fear-and-pranks. On the defense, bug bites and toxic venom won't work on you if you have no blood or body. That's why Normal and Fighting go straight through them, of course.

Bugs are my fave, all hail the Hive Mind. They chomp dark and psychic because they can be just as creepy as the savage Dark ones, though they don't mean it. Bugs don't give a damn about your bloodthirsty tendencies, all they want is another meal. You can't scare em, can't use your super-awesome king fu on them, they're too hard to read and predict. the chittering in your head as the Hive Mind draws close doesn't help
To be continued...

Fighting is a cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything. He hits things hard and then they break, simple. Psychics screw with his mind, dark types fail to do so. He tried to karate chop a bee but that didn't end well. Steel is like putty in his hands. He phases through the ghosts and they giggle a little. The bee came back and stung him, but his incredible muscles actually beat the venom out of him.

Psychic knows what the martial artist is doing before they do, and can muddle with their weak and feeble minds easily. Other Psychics and the best-lifeforms-known-as-robots are a little trickier for them. The creepy bugs, darklings and ghosts scare the bejeesus out of them though. Dark is so creepy that Psychics flat out refuse to mind-meld with them, the necessary procedure for performing the esper-arts.

Steel-is-the-best-because-their-defense-is-impenetrable. Steel-can-only-be-broken-by-Armstrong. (Pic-related) The-puny-mortals-and-their-feeble-mind-tricks-are-so-far-below-that-I-would-laug h-if-I-felt-emotion. Which-I-do-not. All-your-puny-tricks-are-for-naught.

The one Rider you are referring to in the picture is Kamen Rider Black RX, which was adapted into the Power Rangers spinoff, Masked Rider. Anything else ya wanna know?

To answer the question, most bugs tend to be nocturnal. They have adapted to be able to survive without the darkness impeding them like in wood, underground, or just night in general. That was just fan speculation, the really reason was probably to balance dark types and give bug types another advantage

I have, and that's the thought process I went through. However, plants don't "burst" through concrete/asphalt. The road/sidewalk breaks, and then the plant grows through it.

I fail to see how throwing leaves at a rock defeats it, or how you can leech life out of a rock.

The cracks in the road are caused by the plants growing up through them. There's a Chinese weed that's taken over parts of the English countryside which is known to burst through concrete.

The Dark-type is actually supposed to be the Evil-type, but it was changed in translation. It could be some sort of homage to insects, since Satoshi Tajiri used to love bugs and collected them. I can imagine it's supposed to say something like that bugs aren't evil, as most people might think.
Or, what's even more likely, is that they figured the Bug-type was severely underpowered and needed something for it to be strong against, so they simply made it strong against Dark when it was introduced.
It's pretty much what they did to the Poison-type and Steel-type when they introduced Fairy. There's no real logic behind why those two types are strong against Fairy, other than that Poison has always been the most useless type in Pokémon, since generation II, and Steel hasn't been much better, offensively.
