That was one ridiculous plot points that I could never get over.
Granted, I've only seen the movie, but he wasn't a makeup artist, he was a baker. Not only that, but he was a baker in the ******* slums, it's not like he would have had many cake orders where he had to recreate realistic environments from fondant and buttercream. " **** I need to make myself look exactly like a rock using nothing but the dirt and **** around me. Well, I've iced some cakes before, so that's basically the same thing." The skill doesn't translate like that and it's about as far-fetched as a plot point can get.
"I need to find a water source to survive. Well I've located my own kitchen sink before, so I guess it would be no problem in the wilderness."
He wasn't a bake in the slums, his family lived in the rich part of town. They made pretty baked goods for the richer people of the district. Read the books and then object to 'plot points'.
I still argue that Peeta contributed absolutely nothing to the plot but creating a poorly written love triangle with Gale, and that the story would have in fact been BETTER if he had simply been killed in the first Games.
In the book the district has basically 3 classes of people, the winner, the merchants and the workers.
The people who lived in the slums were people who worked in the mines like Katniss's father. Peta's family were merchants and they actually had a pretty good standard of living. The winners enjoyed a life style so great that it made the merchants lifestyle look weak. But that was only if you won the hunger games and in their district they only had one winner. Basically peta spent a lot of time with his hands.
In the book they explain that while katniss spent a lot of time with survival and the other spent with weapons she couldnt find peta. Peta went off and was learning the camouflage course.
So basically, training + stead hands from decorating cakes is the explanation.
I know, right? This whole thing could have been easily been avoided if he just covered himself in dirt and twigs to camouflage, instead of painting himself.
In the book the training cycle lasts longer than it seems in the movie; In fact, survival training takes first and foremost among them. There is some quote in the book about how most people don't die due to weapons, but to lack of food/water because they trained too hard on weapons and not enough on survival. Sorry, I don't remember the exact quote. As far as him being able to doodle the natural surroundings, eh your right there. I think the author gave it to him to seem better than he originally was.
I remember them stressing that Katniss was one of the few people who actually showed interest in the survival skill training, and didn't just rush to master all the weapons.
Thought it was a lot longer than that, but I can't tell you for sure; honestly, I thought it was a mediocre book at best and I don't have a tendency of remembering those very well.
The second and the third books were just... weird. I'd give the series a 7.5/10, but the endings just made me feel awkward. They were a good read and rather unique though.
THANK YOU. I think the same, I read it because i found it at my girlfriends, the first book was pretty okay, but there is absolutly no character development. ******* hate Katpiss. " BLBLBALBAA I AM SO ****** UP AND CANT DECIDE INSTEAD I AMA GRITTY CUNT"
That movie was as awful as I expected it to be and then out of nowhere about halfway through this shining beacon of humor happens and I laughed until I cried made me give the movie one start just for that moment alone.
