I think it's hilarious that a kid could be walking to school, see this thing start to eat the lizard, say "CROIKEY" and get to school
Then at lunch time he goes outside to eat his fairy bread, and still sees the snake eating it.
Except not only in Australia - there are many examples of Burmese Pythons eating Alligators in the everglades. Pic related; it's one that got ripped in half during the process.
From a practical standpoint, isn't it better for the snake NOT to eat the lizard? If it takes five hours to fully swallow, that's 5 hours for another predator to come along and get a double dinner. Plus I doubt it'll be able to get away from anything until it digests some.
There's not many large predators in australia not land based ones anyway . Maybe some dingoes could take that thing on, but they'd likely steer clear of it for fear of being eaten themselves. It's probably safe.
