Having worn only one of those things on, the depth perception and range of view ******* sucks. Now when you have two on like the guy in the picture presents, you can take in so much more from the picture you are seeing.
For example, form your hands into small binoculars and try to look through them. You will notice you can't see much other than directly forward. Now open those hands considerably, you can now see much more and be more aware of your surroundings.
The military is now dabbling or has been dabbling in 8 lens NVGs/Thermal goggles.
