What kind of endoctrinating and fascistic school are you going to? Damn, a country that allows such rules in school is destined to become an idiocracy... What you're doing is pretty awesome though.

WHO THE **** ACTUALLY LIKES THE CATCHER IN THE ******* RYE?

The dude whines and cries about how unfair life is, tries to get with his friends mother, then whines because she didn't fall all over him. It's a stupid piece of **** .

Most of my family attended Catholic school, and I can guarantee you - this is absolutely fake.

The Catholic Church (or any institution thereof) would NEVER consider banning ANY legitimate literature (except, maybe, literature that contains grotesque violence and/or sexuality). Catholicism in its nature promotes the search for knowledge of all kinds, be it scientific, philosophical or moral. In fact, the Church wants its members to read every bit of literature they can get their hands on, especially the kind that contradicts the teachings of the Church. Why? Simply because, "know thy 'enemy' [read: philosophical counterpart]).

I find this poster to be utterly contemptuous. He is an insidious, unscrupulous ******* of a person, and he obviously has an agenda (in addition to lethal doses of ignorance).

You do know that Catholic churches and schools aren't one entire entity. They will differ from place to place. This one just so happens to ban books. Whether or not it goes against the beliefs of the religion, not all places follow what is written.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Literary quality. I disagree.

No literary quality

But really m16, I think it does touch on those issues in a different way to most other texts, but I just don't like it. Mostly because it tries to explain Charlie's introversion by shoving on the molestation in the epilogue. I get that Charlie isn't supposed to understand others well, but it's done so unconvincingly. I think the way themes are stitched onto the story are obvious and not gone into enough. I mean, Charlie literally writes a letter about a Psychology study where rats are willing to go through more pain to get to something pleasurable than to get food, then says he doesn't know why he wrote the letter. Obviously it refers to him not understanding why his friends and sister go through pain for pleasure, but he flat out says he doesn't understand why he likes the study. So why write a whole letter about it? It's just a huge sign saying 'Hey guys, this symbolises Charlies friends!'

My biggest problem with it is how it links introversion to mental illness. It isn't enough for Charlie to be shy and sweet, there has to be some trauma to make it 'legitimate'. Why? It's not like it adds anything to the story, it just makes the popular view of mental illness more unstable and, I think, trivializes it. Also I don't see the beauty in the prose. It's kind of hard to get through, how a lot of the sentences are disconnected and are seemingly trivial.

That being said, it's okay, just not in the leagues of other more interesting looks at mental illness/ shyness and society. Movie was ok.

Animal Farm is probably the bookmark (no pun intended) of your school trying to impose a LACK of thought and understanding. I found it quintessential to finding the powers of corruption and revolution, how those who rise up become just like the ones they overthrew. That, and Orwell's other work, 1984, formed a greater understanding in me during high school. For a school to ban books is like barring education in the classroom.

Unless they formed an ulterior motive to get kids to READ these books, in which case, holy **** that's cunning.
