Considering the hard on the first order has for Luke and Jedi in general it would make sense they have an anti-Jedi troop class, it also seems to double as a crowd control unit since he has a riot shield he drops prior to engaging
I thought it was a nice symbolic gesture of Finn choosing to fight the First Order by fighting off this guy with the lightsaber. Plus it was really cool
Kylo tanked a bowcaster that thing that blew people back like 6 feet when it hit shot the kidney so he isn't at his peak, and I imagine killing Solo also had him unfocused with that "I can feel the light tempting me" thing
thank you. chewie ****** kylo up and no on seems to remember that. kylo is going to be a beast though. han was the only one who could bring him back to the light. game over. rey vs kylo is going to be epic
Well put it this way, Storm troopers are ment to be mindless drones. That is the point of the Empire who commands millions of worlds. They aren't supposed to be special individual snowflakes. The only reason cloned troopers vary is because compared to the Clone Wars and the Empire. The Empire is far more vast; Requires more soldiers to maintain. If you understand how cloning works. Well; Cloning a clone is bad. Its like inbreeding. Which is why there is some variety in clones gene pool.
With that said; Storm troopers in the lore are not blundering morons. They actually kick a whole lot of ass because of Training and Genetic Engineering. The joke is the reason they miss so much in the movies is partly because they do it on purpose so they can track rebels back to their base of operations.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are plenty of Storm Troopers than can go toe to toe with a Jedi or a Sith seeing how Mandolorians hunt force users as a blood sport.
Let's remember Finn was trained as a storm trooper prior to deserting. I assume there is a potential to match his strength and beat him without much melee combat training.
Kylo was a punk little bitch that was panicking in his fight with Finn. It's probably easy to lose your composure when you aren't military trained and are worried about dying.
makes me wonder how on earth he killed of an entire school of jedi. if his sword skills suck so bad at least some of the jedi in training should have been able to hold him off.
which brings me to my theory that rey might be one of luke skywalker's students, but of course that could be easily debunked with kylo ren not recognizing her
Spoilers if by easily match, you mean, barely manages to avoid getting chopped up, and then does. Kylo obviously isn't very proficient with a saber either. Also, you can take into account that this fight with the storm trooper was quite literally the first time he had ever fought with it, at least when he got to Kylo he had a little more experience.
I would disagree, I think it further illustrates that Stormtroopers aren't mindless clones anymore. They are capable of emotions and holding grudges...that helps fill out Finn's backstory and further legitimizes the entire premise of a former stormtroopers as a hero.
thats clone troopers. clone troopers =/= storm troopers. while yes, in universe storm troopers were trained to be the very best and the most feared military force in the galaxy, they still are people and they still have emotions and **** .
has nothing to do with the discussion. which was "do stormtroopers have emotions" which they do, as they are normal people in universe. not clones. tho i do understand what you mean.
Honestly, I think this should have been Phasma. Seriously, they introduce her as this kickass general, all mysterious and **** , and thusfar she's done nothing. She knew Finn, so why not let her fight him? This is just some guy. I'd like to see Phasma get a role like Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive, doing everything to hunt down the deserter.
And by the way, that weapon kicks ass and I want one.
because this scene serves to show how brainwashed the First Order stormtroopers are, as the guy is willing to unleash havoc upon his once close comrade. Phasma probably doesn't even give a **** about the lives of her subordinates.
but were they close comrades? this guy immediately recognizes Finn as an ex-storm trooper but how? did they even see each other's faces? Phasma got pretty pissed when Finn took off his helmet, so I kinda assumed none of them ever saw each other without helmets. to prevent companionship and promote loss of identity and stuff. as far as we know, Phasma was the only one who ever saw his face...
She would have killed him with it at his first **** up. Its given to a random so it is established for when she picks one up to fight ray/luke in episode 8/9
I wish there was build up to this guy. Like other storm troopers running away when they see Finn with a lightsaber and calling for this guy to come over to kick some ass.
I'm not sure if it could've been done better. I mean, so the Jedi are all dead (again) except for Luke Skywalker, who hasn't been seen in years. So why is this guy lugging around a huge anti-lightsaber log as his secondary weapon? Finn had just gotten the saber so you can't write him in as thought he was there specifically to defeat Finn.
You don't really want to emphasize a scene with a glaring plot hole. "He's there. Short fight. Done. Don't think about it. Wasn't important." You can turn off your brain, enjoy the scene, and move on. Try to make it any bigger and you just raise him into the horrible "Star Wars Prequel villain" range.
So basically it was brilliant writing/editing to keep the scene short and contained.
