Fun fact: Belgiums economy was doing quite well in that period. Better than the time before, when they did have a government.
Conclusion: government ***** **** up, no government means improvement!
Well...this might not work 100% of the time, so don't try this at home(country)

'nobody'

On Dutch and German television at least, it would be mentioned like once a month ('and in further news, Belgium still is trying to form a government. They are still not getting there) and there was some anxiety with the Dutch in the first half year if they would beat the dutch record for forming a government (208 days)

But yeah, those are the neighbouring countries. It probably didn't make the american news for two reasons: Americans don't care that much, and the old government kept running. They just weren't allowed to take any really important decisions.

If you look at it from a different point, every government we have now is illegal due to the situation Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde not having been solved despite a court order (yes, the court ordered the government to fix it), and saying there could be no future elections until it was solved.

It was 'solved' about ten years after that, making all our governments illegal.

We in Luxembourg enjoyed having our "bigger brother" in another crisis. Some of us even said it's karma for when you devaluated the Luxembourgish Franc, although it was bound 1:1 to the Belgian Franc before.

I believe some South-African parts have a language very similar to dutch, mainly because it used to be a colony of the netherlands.
But most of Africa probably speaks either broken english, broken french, broken dutch, broken spanish or some native varient.

Of the white population, about half speak English, half Afrikaans (they also speak English though). The Black people usually speak Zulu, Khosa or other ancient languages (unfortunately there are no native San in SA anymore).
The colored people usually speak Afrikaans with a very strong accent.
