As an Australian I can confirm this is 100% accurate.
User avatar #110 to #20 - dredgewill (11/24/2015) [-]
As an Australian, I can confirm this is -10% correct, it is fine on American servers for me, my friends rage about how I am playing on a Washington server and not lagging out, and I have good internet service: 1.5mbps ( **** in other countries but this is 'straya). The only problem is, there is not enough Australian servers, some games don't even offer servers in Australia.

dafuq man. i live in a ****** east european country and we can get 100 mbps for something like 6$ a month

How is that possible, your ping has to do with how close you are to the host. What do you average? and what do you classify as American servers?
User avatar #116 to #113 - dredgewill (11/24/2015) [-]
American as in Washington, I do not know why, but I can play perfectly fine on American servers, only around 50-100 ping, which means slight stutter sometimes.

actually 100 Mbps internet = 10 MB/s download

well, then the best in australia is 30 mbps, we only have 15 mbps, dafuq?

Lucky for us in Tas we got things setup somewhat here, low ping and rates are eh.
#112 to #107 - anon (11/24/2015) [-]
Yeah ping isn't really an issue here since its more to do with how close the host is and you wont be using up a 600gb data cap unless you're torrenting pretty hard. The only thing that's total **** is the speeds, 1mb down 100kb up

As a non-Australian, I would like to know what the **** is up with your guy's internet connection.
#31 to #26 - ragequittingagain (11/23/2015) [-]
Short story is that decades back the federal govt. made the ******* crazy decision to privatise the telecommunications infrastructure.

Surprise surprise, the now private telstra spent the next 30 years or so neglecting the living **** out of the copper network, only doing repairs when needed and basically only upgrading when they absolutely had to. Also charging their customers extortionate rates, but that's another story.

So, 3 election cycles ago a labour party government was elected, one of the promises they made was the National Broadband Network, an absolutely wonderful plan to wrest control of the network back from Telstra and simultaneously replace the rotting copper network with a shiny new fiber-to-the-premises network. Of course, it took them nearly 6 years after being elected to even start the damn thing.

So, of course, in the intervening time a new gov. was elected. A Liberal Nationals government. So, Malcom Turnbull, the former communications minister and now prime minister, took the opportunity to say 'hey this NBN thing is costing too much, let's **** with it so it costs less now and more in the future!'. His plan is patently retarded, he wants to use the EXISTING COPPER (Which is ****** ) to deliver fiber-to-the-node services.

TLR our governments through a string of monumental **** ups have *********** our internet, and the future of it.
#49 to #31 - slias (11/24/2015) [-]
You left out the part where the Liberal NBN is now going to cost at least as much as the Labour NBN. A miniscule fraction of the original product for the same price! What a ******* bargain.
#136 to #49 - anon (11/24/2015) [-]
No, the FttN plan wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as the FttP plan, as the labour requirements to install FttP is far greater than that of FttN.

Then you couple that with our Trade Union's constantly trying to get payrises every few months, as well as ongoing increases to the cost of materials, and the project begins to blow out to extraordinary lengths.

FttN is not anywhere near as good as FttP, but testing has found that speeds of 100MBps down and 40MBps up are possible on a FttN network.

And this isn't being paid for with free money. This is tax payers money, and considering how **** our health, education, and public transport systems are, I'd prefer to see money spent on these more essential services.
#138 to #136 - anon (11/24/2015) [-]
www.nbnco.com.au/blog/fttn-will-help-connect-end-users-to-the-nbn-network-more-quickly.html

>Our recent FTTN trials up in Belmont, NSW saw end-users within 400 metres of the cabinet getting speeds of up to 100Mbps/40Mbps – even end-users located over 700 metres from the cabinet were still getting speeds of over 60Mbps/20Mbps.

I'm currently getting 12Mbps, and it's more than enough for what me and my family need (gaming/streaming music/movies). When I stand out the front of my house, I can see the cabinet about 200 metres down the street. If I can get 100Mbps, I would be more than happy, hell, I'd be happy with getting 25Mbps.
User avatar #57 to #31 - lettersonlywhy (11/24/2015) [-]
Also doesn't NBN co own 100% of the fiber network that it leases out to all the phone companies? So if they keep rolling out the current plan NBN co owns 100% of the internet in aus and so they can charge whatever the **** they want for it.

Urban planning major here:
the roundabout is only good in certain situations, but for the most part the theory of city is to be somewhere that is easily walkable, as that cuts down on traffic. To that end, a roundabout is ******* horrifying for pedestrians and also cuts down on city flow when you have a lot of them in an area, replacing a roundabout with a traditional 4 light intersection guarentees some sort of flow for cars and protection for pedestrians.
User avatar #22 to #13 - belshir (11/23/2015) [-]

#60 to #13 - anon (11/24/2015) [-]

User avatar #67 to #13 - maxismahname (11/24/2015) [-]
The reason we don't like them is because we barely have any experience with them. The reason we barely have any here is unknown to me. My guess is because of how a lot of our cities are organized in grids, so roundabouts wouldn't really make sense
User avatar #71 to #67 - redplasticcup ONLINE (11/24/2015) [-]

I've only ever seen one in my life, and I'm not even sure it's a roundabout, or a ****** up street.
what even is the point of a roundabout? That just looks messy as **** , it's not me I'm worried about, it's some of the other drivers I've seen around my old town and how they would **** it up even more
#111 to #87 - tangedal (11/24/2015) [-]
**tangedal used "*roll picture*"**
**tangedal rolled image** Yeah, well. In theory a roundabout gives better flow in the traffic than lights.
But it's depending if people are fletching through the roundabout during rush etc.
And implementing them in areas previously void of roundabouts can be very messy as people 1) Don't go in the right lane 2) Forget the fantastic fact that they have turn signals 3) Don't watch their right side (left for uk/australia etc)

In my town(Skien Norway) we had a great boom of roundabouts, which helped alot. Mostly. Though for some reason, at the most traffic intensive point there is lights around the roundabout to allow pedestrians....Yeah Lights to allow pedestrians, 3 places in a stretch of 100 meters, which causes the traffic to congest because 1 ****** wants over the road. (Great joke hear is that there is a walking road via tunnel under the road right next to it.) How its planned is important.
