Leaving aside the fact that they couldn't tell the difference between a real gun and a tattoo, I really don't think he pulled it out and pointed it at them, so what kind of pussy calls the police because someone has a gun in their belt on their own property?

Can someone explain to me why from the outside it seems like Americans are better at regulating things that look like guns than actual guns?

because bringing down the hammer of justice on an 8 year old who bites his breakfast into the shape of a gun is a lot easier than shutting down multi billion dollar black market international arms dealers and the creating the illusion of safety is more comforting to the drooling masses than the knowledge that there is absolutely no way that your safety can ever truly be guaranteed

if you're removing trees on someones property without their consent then YOU'RE the real criminal here.

i think this post is dumb...its not that they were called because it was a gun tattoo, they were called because they thought it was an actual gun...and also noting his white supremacist tattoos probably led them to believe he was about to do some real **** .

Did the idiot who called the police also call the fire department?

now this may be very difficult to understand for those of the American persuasion (and I don't judge, just different points of view) but I would be rather shocked as well if someone who was trying to make me go away had something in his belt that was solely designed to kill people in a fast and efficient way.

It's like you guy's have gotten so desensitized to guns being everywhere that you forget what these things are for in the first place

This. Almost all of the school shootings take place in the USA. Those aren't planned crimes, those are mostly kids who got fed up and found daddy's gun in a drawer. Also, thee have been studies suggesting that the littlest difficulty on a suicide (like a barrier on the bridge, or not having a gun) is usually enough to avoid it. Not to mention how many gun accidents take place all the time, and of course the nationwide paranoia and fear of ******* everything (remember the pop-tart terrorist?) resulting in crappy, scared lives. If everyone has the right to a gun, that doesn't mean just you. It means stupid people, depressed people, bullied angry kids and improvised terrorists. Guns are to kill, and only those who MUST do it without any other option should carry one.

I work for a tree-care company and I can easily explain why he called the police.
1) From 65 ft up in a tree there is no way you can tell if its a real gun in his belt or not. In reality when faced with a gun your mind automatically jumps to "its real" not " maybe its a tattoo." And that's a very accurate tattoo.
2) If working on trees near power lines people get LIVID with you. They don't understand that this is done to prevent power outages. I work with people that have been shot, shot at, and had dogs set on them. It doesn't matter if he pointed it at him, should we go "well he's yelling at use but hasn't drawn the gun so its ok." Hell no.

The person called b/c it was for everyone safety. If I'm doing work on your property want to talk fine, but if you come out yelling with a gun (in this case what the person though was a gun) I AM calling the cops because that's a ****** up situation. Calling the cops was the right move.

Reposted b/c I accidentally did it as a reply

It will not be clearly 2D or 3D from far away...at all. From a distance all you will really be able to tell is the shape, gun's aren't that thick. Plus if a guy comes out yelling with what I think is a gun I'm not sticking around to take a closer look. And it doesn't matter if he pulled the gun out and pointed it at him, if it gets to that point the situation has gone from ****** up to deadly. I'm willing to bet a large amount of money his way of telling them "to clear off his property" was in a less than friendly manner (yelling and swearing).

And it doesn't matter if he's on his property b/c either the tree removal crew was hired by him (not in this case obviously) or they are working on trees near electrical lines in which case they are on a public easement. (Land own publicly for utility so he doesn't own it.) If I'm on my property yelling at people on the side walk while holding a gun it doesn't matter if I'm on my own property or not it still a idiotic and the cops are coming.

Well, he should have worn a shirt, shouldn't have got that tattoo, been nice to the tree cutters or maybe just stayed inside, the ******* redneck hillbilly **** .
User avatar #59 to #58 - rynkar (03/20/2014) [-]
Pretty sure they weren't. He probably had some trees growing from his property that extended out of it.

#1.Maine is an open carry state, you can walk down the street with a gun on your hip without a permit and it's legal. You only need a permit to conceal.
#2.The man was on his own property.
#3.Unless he threatened them with the gun he broke no laws. Even if he was walking down Main st. and the gun was real he still would not have broken any Maine hangun laws.
It's the dispatchers fault for not asking if the crew was verbally threatened with gun violence.
