Considering the average IQ of people all over the world, I don't think any country has a mental health problem. What we cave is a problem with people telling us what to blame. Stupid people do stupid **** no matter what, but whether it's the fault of guns, video games, or cats, is all based on what you see pointed to most. People are smarter than we give them credit for. It's just easier to see the idiots.

I always liked the logic behind making guns illegal, because you really just don't want criminals to have guns, but if you make guns illegal the only people giving their guns up are law abiding citizens, thus creating a country where the only people who have guns are criminals. By fighting for anti-gun laws, you're effectively working against what you want to happen, and that is just hilarious to me.

"Changing weight classes in the UFC is cheating."

Smartest man alive, totally believe anything he says.

He actually said cutting weight is cheating.

Completely different thing, and most probably agree with him to some extent.

America doesn't have a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem, it's a country with a normal amount of people with mental health problems except they have more access to guns.

you know, I'm against guns. I honestly don't believe anyone should legally own a weapon that's main purpose and use is to kill ("main" meaning, yes, you can use it to shoot someone in the leg, but that's not the man purpose, that's a good alternative).
We don't have gun problems here in Europe. They're illegal and nobody is arguing that.
Now, however, if we look at the states, things change. I really don't believe guns can and should become illegal there. It has gotten to a point where if that happened, putting aside the obvious uprising, the only people giving up their guns would be the law abiding citizens. Criminals have easy access to guns, but luckily so do the citizens. Some laws would be nice, like a psychological test or something, but in no way should it be as easy as walking in a store and picking it up... regulation, but at this stage if they were banned, it would work incredibly bad for the citizens. Plus, a black market would be created, and who knows how much it would cost to combat that...
<this gif in particular is very well to prove some points. He stopped a crime from happening using a gun, but he used it properly. He assessed the threat, turned the safety off, saw the situation has been stopped, and put the safety back on. Responsible gun use, prevention of a crime with the use of a gun in a much faster time than without one (if at all), etc.

Anyway, this is coming from a eurofag that doesn't even live in the good parts of Europe, so I have no real idea of anything, just speculation based on media consumption.

Are you trolling, or has Europe become a country while I looked away? I live in Europe too, and I own 5 firearms legally. I can add further to your post by telling you that the main purpouse of most firearms is target shooting and hunting.
In Sweden we do have a gun problem. That problem is *********** shooting each other with illegal guns from Russia. Because legal guns are almost NEVER used for crime. Gun control is wrong, and the only form thereof should be a mental evaluation and criminal background check.

On the topic of banning guns, here's a thought:
Currently, with guns being legal, a cop walks down the street and sees an untold number of guns.
Hard to tell the crims from the honest people.
NOW: If guns are illegal, the same cop walks down the street, and can identify trouble makers (i.e. the crims that disobey said gun laws) by their guns, and potentially arrest them before the next mass shooting/liquor store robbery.
And yes, I know it's not going to stop shootings because concealed weapons are hard to find (hence the term "concelaed"), but the idea is that it would make it just that little but easier to spot would be gunmen.
Just my 2c worth. I'll shut up now.
#106 to #98 - katothepotato (06/09/2014) [-]
But I'll bite anyways to tell you how wrong you are. If weapons were to be banned, yeah it would be easier for cops to spot the criminals. But let's check where all the mass shootings in the past 6 years have occurred. Oh that's right, all in gun-free zones. Meaning that those walking into the area with the guns were breaking the law, now imagine that on a national scale. It would be madness. And let's look at history, The prohibition tried to tell people that they can't drink, that failed and created organized crime, The current drug laws are now considered failures in the majority of states and encourages organized crime. So tell me how banning guns wouldn't do the same.

The logic that you could possibly somehow make guns illegal in the US is something that I think would be ridiculously difficult and a horrible disaster, if not impossible and something that would mark you as a huge target.

89% of the US population has guns. Freaking 89 out of 100. Some of those owners are democrats, and even liberals. Do you think, in any realistic scenario, the attempt to take those guns would not end in death, rebellion, and violence of any sort? Do you think any police officer would dare try and flush a neighborhood where there are more guns than people?

Don't believe me? Well, look just to the south of the border. It's practically impossible to legally get a gun in Mexico, yet their gun related death rate is currently HIGHER on average. Blame it on the Cartels then? Alright, but who's their biggest and most valuable customer? If they can establish a huge trade route through the heart of the country up to Canada, you're pretty sure that the supply of illegal weaponry isn't going to cease. Even if drugs are their main export, weapons provide security for their product.

Even that senator got arrested because he was banning legal guns just so the illegal gun trade would be boosted, and he'd get a share of the profits.

I don't think that at any point in the recent future you'd be able to put an effective wholesale ban on guns. Not at least without severe and very undesirable consequences that would endanger millions of lives. And while you can claim you don't have gun violence in your country, your country probably has significantly different circumstances and you probably are ignoring other data on violent crime rates, such as general mugging and stabbings. When someone wants someone dead, they'll do it. Whether it be through bullet, knife, or club.

So I'm pretty sure you try to take their guns, well, I wouldn't want to be you because you'll have a huge bullseye on your back, and on any law enforcement that tries to do so.

"Gun problem".
Most guns used in the US to commit crime are purchased illegally via the black market.
Most of those crimes are committed by blacks, up to like 90% of them.

As for the security, it's not all bad. If you look at it this way, not another attack like 9/11 has happened. It's just more pseudo-anarchist and libertarian whining.
User avatar #120 - languagexplain (06/09/2014) [-]
This is right. The problem isn't that guns are legal, the problem is that just about everyone seems to think they NEED guns.
