okay so I understand how replication through devision works, but how in the hell do you get out of the equation more than you put in? matter can't be created, so where is all the extra volume coming from?   
   
put differently, if something divided... wouldn't the two resulting parts each be half the size of the original? I'm just deeply confused by this...
