I disagree. It's similar to the Simpsons v Family Guy thing:
The Simpsons gets quite slapstick and silly, but it always has a certain good humor about everything that happens, and they work hard to maintain the sense that the Simpsons (the family) all love each other for real. (Lisa getting back Bart's soul. Homer never seeming to care about any other women except Marge. That kind of thing.)
While in Family Guy, only weak attempts are made near the beginning of the series to have "nice" moments like Peter sitting down with Meg and talking to her about how she hate the family always picking on her, and it's almost nice, but then immediately gets right back to slapstick/horrific treatment of each other, and after like season 2, the show just stops trying to do that kind of thing and embraces the full on hatred that all the characters have for one another. The episode where Brian dies is a weird attempt for them to do an emotionally impactful bit, but at least for me, it falls short for numerous reasons, most of all because he's just saved in the next episode.
I'd put Bojack solidly towards Family Guy on the spectrum of Cartoon Comedies, and the "emotional scenes" in it felt really out of place. But that's just me.
Why do we have this simpson vs family guy comparison when both of those are comedy shows that runs out of funny comedy enough to actually run into emotional scenes between characters.
