I come right now from watching it in the theater, and **** I'm pumped and excited. Is someone interested in having a spoiler-heavy conversation always properly hidden, of course in which we can share our impressions and thoughts about it? I'm craving some nerd-to-nerd action right now

there is no logic why the "light side" is tempting Ren. dark side is the side that tempts, not the other way around. yeah, you can switch from dark side to light like Ani did, but it's not easy, since the sith way is absolute.
anyway, not such a big problem but...
dark side is supposed to be the "quick way to master the force" and the jedi way is supposed to be slow and hard and filled with discipline. but lol nope that bitch is instantly mind controlling people and being all good with light sabers. what the **** did kylo do all that time?! jack off in his room being angsty teenager and touching his grandfathers helmet?! he should have beaten that little bitch.
and let's not talk about the bitch. she is literally so boring that I forgot her name, and I don't even have any interest to check. it was some rey or something.
oh and WHY THE **** did they destroy the whole expanded universe FOR THIS!? so far it has been somewhat true-ish to the books, some changes but anyways... they could have just denied everything after the movies as non-canon in that case, not the WHOLE ******* 20 YEARS OF WORLD BUILDING FROM PAST TO PRESENT AND INTO THE FUTURE.
and as a 3D modeler I absolutely hated the orange yoda. this is some prequel level of 3D! it's ******************************** and you're making a STAR WARS movie for DISNEY. don't tell me you don't have the budget or the time to give those animators and modelers. My friends thought that it looked alright tho, so it just might be me and my keen nitpicky eye for these kind of things.
I was also somewhat disappointed in the soundtrack. I expected to hear certain music more or at all.
also, where the **** did the stupid brotherhood first order come from? in the remnants of the empire? yeah cool cool, but a little bit more detail would be nice. maybe they'll explain that later on. I sure hope so. because they are apparently MAJOR player with loads of power. how? anyways, most that annoyed me is that they build another deathstar that has some very retarded weakness. are they like stupid? and about that deathstar, it swallows suns and shoots planets, okay cool, but why the hell is the second time they use it somehow "slower" and thus allows the heroes to save themselves?
also wtf Snooki (Snoke)?! Who the hell is he? what's up with him? if he is so high and mighty why don't we have any mention of him? is he starkiller?

overall I liked the movie tho (even if I just bashed it), definitely better than the prequels. I'm not just some mindless droid that praises it blindly, it was good. I just want to adress the weaker parts of the movie since it's a taboo to criticize a good movie, especially a good star wars movie, but the movie in no way was perfect.

agree movie was good but I think overall the point of it was to bring us back to what Star Wars is in terms of the original trilogy while introducing us to new characters and the new threat. Kylo Ren sucks and I really hope he goes in the next movie. Just a complete non threatening bore of a bad guy. What's his name there running the operation (the other guy we see talking to Snoke) is a waaaaaay better bad guy. The whole Star Killer thing was again just a call back to the original trilogy and hopefully we'll see something other than space stations that destroy planets for the next two movies. **** the Death Star is even more threatening. It's smaller, doesn't require absorbing a star to power it's weapon and does the exact same thing. The Death Star could just sneak within range hiding behind another planet or just get up to it while it's charging and destroy that stupid thing. As far as Rey goes it's made clear that she had some training in the past and is more powerful with the force than kylo ren. Something has happened that caused her memory loss. Could be it was done to protect her from the influence of the dark side or something along those lines. Also I don't think there's any relation to the skywalker bloodline. At least i'm hoping there isn't cause that would kinda be lame. Han and Leia would know more about who she is and especially Kylo Ren when he tried getting into her mind there would have been something they both would have picked up on. The best thing about the movie is the lightsabers. They really seem volatile lol and the saber duals are more like the original trilogy, they look so much better and carry more weight instead of the dancing of the prequels. I'm guessing the first order is just the empire. The name change is probably just to reflect that this is a new part of a bigger story, could also be masking the greater threat but then again they are storm troopers and have sith (in training) so it seems like they (producers, director, writers) just wanted to make it theirs. Snoke, maybe he's palpatine, fact is we really didn't see him die and he was able to mask himself among the Jedi. He really is the biggest badass lol. Could be he got more ****** up, maybe is hiding behind a fake body and name, that or maybe he has a new body or something. Notice that crease on his forehead lol. I'm just hoping the next 2 movies are less predictable. It'll be lame if Luke dies but then again he might just hang around as a force ghost and who knows, we'll probably see Yoda, Obi Wan and even Anakin lol all coming together to chat to Rey, just as long as he doesn't fall to Kylo Ren. That does remind me though how Snoke mentions that they must complete Rens training after he sucked so hard against Rey. So we'll probably see a much more skilled Kylo Ren in the next movie. Who know's, he might even get all ****** up as part of the training and end up getting himself a Vader style suit.

Chock full of plotholes and various other things plaguing it.

Sure buddy!

I tried to keep the hype down as much as possible so my expectations weren't too high and thanks to that I could enjoy the movie for what it is. Seriously when I heard the familiar theme song I felt such happiness I haven't felt for a decade at least.

I didn't really mind that it was similiar to NH, FA featured enough new things to be more than a simple nostalgia fest.

With that said there were a few parts I didnt like. For example Finn was trained to be a stormtrooper from early childhood and yet he deserted after his very first battle and didn't act like a brainwashed drone like the other soldiers.

The other thing that bugged me was the superweapon, how was it supposed to work after it drained the Suns power?

Other than this I really enjoyed the movie!

Yeah, right? He turns too easily, man, there should be more of a conflict going on, that man has literally no ******* identity and all of a sudden he's all " **** this Imma rebel the **** out of this ship", tho I believe given more conflict it would maybe draw too much attention from the overall story and stripped him from his quirkiness, which I ******* crave

One thing I didn't like at all is the introduction of that ******* oh-so-evil over the top grim Emperor 2.0, it wasn't necessary at all, the story would have been more interesting if focused more on the actual fascist ideologies of the Order as a whole

In that sense I didn't like all the superweapon stuff at all. Come on, we have already seen that **** , it's the Death Star all over again, with the same purpose, the same threat and the same downfall, they even go comparing the two "No, but look, this one is BIGGER", give me a ******* break

And that's the biggest issue I find, it's not a fanfest, but it burrows too heavily on the plot of the original trilogy, tho I believe it's a way to interest the new generations in the old material and lay the way to future sequels

Oh, man, I'm just glad old school Star Wars is back again, I think I'm gonna cry

I assume it had engines along its equator so it could move to another system.
User avatar #199 to #194 - duplat (12/23/2015) [-]
Yeah I guess that makes sense, but still it seems to be horribly inefficient I mean it would consume a whole sun with a shot or two also destroying whole star systems are a bit of an overkill
User avatar #200 to #199 - huntergriff ONLINE (12/23/2015) [-]
destroying a planet in general is overkill.

Kylo Ren is extremely badly written
Rey is extremely badly written
Finn is extremely badly written
Poe is A-OK, could be the lovechild of Han Solo & Wedge Antilles

3/10, would not Jar Jar Abrams again
User avatar #168 to #167 - agronimo (12/23/2015) [-]
I disagree about everything you said
Except for Poe, Poe is A-OK
User avatar #180 to #168 - metajunky (12/23/2015) [-]
Han's death should have had a bigger impact
Rey is a Mary Sue
Finn and Poe were pretty cool
Ren is a whiney dousche done right
General Hux's speech tho
Them practical effects
7/10, maybe 8/10 movie
User avatar #222 to #180 - sirmatthew (12/24/2015) [-]
but Rey isn't a Mary Sue.
User avatar #227 to #222 - metajunky (12/24/2015) [-]

Han's character has disappointed me greatly, I don't know what it was, but I didn't recognize the badass smug smuggler from the original trilogy in this film. Harrison Ford really feels old and tired on screen. Maybe it's because thEY ******* KILL HIM OH MY GOD HOW COULD THEY. Don't get me wrong, I ******* loved the scene and the buildup and how it was filmed, but it should have been in the next film or something, mate, I'm totally with you in that sense, they blew one of the potential greatests twists of the franchise
I loved Rey, I don't know what's a Mary Sue, but I just loved her character and how she connects temathically with Luke in the original trilogy, and also how she shares traits with Han, it's... I don't know, I liked her, and the actress gives an interesting performance
About all of them, I find Ren to be the most interesting, not because he's the embodiment of evil, or badass or powerfull like Vader was, but for the exact opossite reasons, you said it, it's a ******* whiney douche, and that's what I love of him, how anticlimactic it is when he takes off the helmet and turns out to be just a ******* edgy boy trying to follow his grandpa's steps to glory and badassery. ******* loved what they did there with his character
General Hux in general. **** , I expect to see more of him in the future, he's the perfect heir for Grand Moff Tarkin's legacy
I may be biased right now because I'm so hyped, even tho I was completely cynical and skeptical, but I ******* loved it, man. As a standalone film it isn't utter greatness, but considering it's potential for sequels... Oh man
User avatar #226 to #197 - metajunky (12/24/2015) [-]
I'm fine with his portrayal and I actually liked how they portrayed him as more seasoned and world weary, but with the younger Han still shining through. But he's an iconic character. There should have been more of a reaction. Leia had one of the most classic movie romances in movie history with him, yet she doesn't do anything but hug Rey. Chewie I felt was the only one to really treat it like the big deal it's supposed to be. And as someone who followed the EU, it bugs me that Chewie outlives Han. It feels weird
Rey is basically Little Miss Perfect. She excels at everything we see her do for little to no reason. Everything goes her way far too easily for her first appearance ever
User avatar #232 to #226 - agronimo (12/24/2015) [-]
I totally see your point, but I like her character nontheless, she's far from being a plain one. I think she may come up as a bit of a forced protagonist because they were trying to play the surprise with her being such a main thing

**** , I even got caught off guard, I really thought she was just going to be a secondary character, I mean, the one with Luke's lightsaber in the posters is Fin after all. I kinda believe it was all an elaborate ruse

And I love that tandem thing they have going on, it works well, I'm yet not even sure who's supposed to be the protagonist here, nor if there's just one in the first place. It creates an interesting dynamic and it just feels refreshing

I just hope they further develop her character in the upcoming movies so she starts to feel more struggling, and thus, deserving of her spotlight in the plot
