well, weed IS a drug because it effects the body in a predictable and specific way

i realise it is a leaf, a plant, and that it is natural, but that doesn't stop it from being a drug

You're thinking of recreational drugs there. Alcohol fits the definition of drug.

mostly because you grow up thinking its "normal". Alcohol is glorified through advertisements and movies where they try to portray the message "drink this and you'll get laid". Whenever you see weed in mainstream media its always shown through some dirty stoner 420blazIT retard, that says ******** like "i see pink unicorns walking around, why is my toaster talking to me?"

Totally agree, I just have to add it makes me mad when people that drink coffee/alcohol act like they're better than people that smoke for "not doing drugs". YOU do drugs too. (not you ************, but you know what I'm getting at) Also I do all three so not judging anyone, just saying.

if a drug is anything you can predict what will do to your body upon consumption, then food would qualify as a drug as we can predict what effects it will have on your body, most noticeable you wont starve

there are a whole lot of different definitions to what a drug is, what i think your looking for is the definition to a recreational drug: any substance with pharmacologic effects that is taken voluntarily for personal pleasure or satisfaction rather than for medicinal purposes. The term is generally applied to alcohol, barbiturates, amphetamines, THC, PCP, cocaine, and heroin but also includes caffeine in coffee and cola beverages. taken from medical dictionary

Poison ivy grows in the ground.

But no surprise, stoners are pretty stupid.

Heroin grows from the ground, Opium grows from the ground, cocaine grows from the ground. Just because it grows from the ground doesn't make it good for you to ingest in your body. You know what else grows from the ground? Nightshade.

well, you have to process heroin, it doesn't just grow as big bud of fun dust. same with cocaine, and opiets.

sure you can get high from eating cocoa leaves, but you'd probably get sick as a dog too. also, those are covered under the 'no powder' part of the quote. and the use of the word 'probably' means their will be exceptions to the rule. I'm not about to go out and smoke a bowl of poison ivy, that's just stupid.

use your judgement. theirs a reason cocaine and heroine are schedule 1 narcotics, and weed's being decriminalized.

Although, in my honest opinion, I think all drugs should be decriminalized, and people should be allowed to do whatever the **** they want within reason, like in Portugal. And people who have a substance abuse issue should be treated in mental care facilities, instead of detox and substance abuse clinics. All those places do is teach you how to not use for a while, instead of digging into the roots of the issue.

I know what you mean and I really don't have a problem with weed, I mean hell who doesn't like to smoke a bowl or two every now and then. The problem I have with it starts with the people who think of weed as some miracle plant that can solve all the worlds problems(yes I know i over-exaggerated a little).

its benefits far outweigh its negative aspects, that's where people get the misconception that it's a miracle for everything. because of its heightened rate of photosynthesis alone, I say we just let people grow and consume as much as they want. it grows faster than trees, and it's super renewable. I don't even smoke any more, my wife's allergic to the ****. one in a million, and it's pretty ******. but whaddya gonna do.. but I still feel like their are a lot of benefits to allowing the plant to be grown and harvested publicly.

no worries, man. the last time i smoked down, I came home and went to bed without taking a shower. she started breaking out in a rash, and her throat started closing. I think that's considered an anaphylactic reaction, but I'm not a doctor. At any rate, I had to leave the room, and she had to go sit in the bathroom with the shower on steam-blasters to open her airways back up. Before that, I didn't believe her. But I always took showers after smoking, before seeing her up until that point.

Cocaine is the narcotic chemical extracted from the leaf, not the leaf. chewing/ smoking the leaf has effects similar to tobacco.

"Drug. n. A substance used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease or as a component of a medication, or to illicit a marked chemical change in the body or consciousness."

Seriously, most drugs come from leaves / plants. Shrooms, tobacco, cocaine, salvia, and a **** ton of others ( www.rain-tree.com/plantdrugs.htm#.U-OzUeNdXDs ). They can be good for you, they can be bad for you, they can be processed or they can work in their natural form through smoking / eating / drinking, but just because it's a leaf doesn't make it not a drug.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being a smart-ass to reporters, but he was stretching pretty far just to make that joke.
