I know this is a weird question and hey i might get down voted but its almost 2 am and im at that kinda high-sleep deprived point...

If we EVER had ships that large they'd never be able to be on earth due to gravity right? I mean even IF we had the power to keep em up...which i don't think we ever will... They'd decimate all that was under them. They'd have to be built in space and stay in space...?

Im bored and i should sleep.

Unless we A) find some way to generate energy that makes a nuclear power plant look about as useful as a flint and tinder, or B) find a way to magically negate the force of gravity exerted by the planet Earth on relatively close objects, there's no way in hell we could get a ship that size to stay in the sky.

Well, if we managed to control gravity, which seems to be the only "good" way to have gigantic spaceships on earth we could do this, the SHIELD helicarrier is implied to have "force dissipators" that spread out the force from the huge engines so they don't flatten everything under it.

Addendum: Having anti-grav vehicles would be ******* awesome, the only friction you'd need to worry about is air-resistance as the ground isn't working against you.

Even if the ship were a trillion kilos (10^12) and it was only a kilometer up in the sky the force it would exert on a person is 0.005 Newtons which is about 100000 less than a human punch.

I watched a video involving the shield helicarrier and how it would effectively mulch people under it awhile ago. I cant remember source and i wont fact check. But if what you say is true then that's awesome.
