"Dad was there really an entire continent made of ice?"
"Yeh."
"What was there?"
"Absolutely ******* nothing."
"Sounds lame.""

All these people talking about how there won't be a trace of the arctic.....
Oh, there'll be something left......

Yes, because by the time you have kids, all of Antarctica will have just melted away.

Just making sure everyone's aware, there IS landmass at the south pole. it not ALL ice.
I know most of you probably know this but there's always that one or 60 dumbass.

The ice caps melting is cyclic, get over it.

But at this point, the outermost glaciers in Antarctica are slowly being eaten away and less of it is being reformed. What OP is referring to is a study that says that basically the melting of glaciers is irreversible and that we have reached the point of no return, where we can do nothing to stop the collapse of these glaciers. Eventually, glaciers around Antarctica are no longer going to reform to their previous size because the global climate is too warm for them to do so.

What this means is that the outermost glaciers that have constantly protected the ice further inland are eventually no longer going to be there, allowing the warmer waters to creep up more and melt even more ice. What this does is exponentially speed up the melting of the ice caps, meaning that the global warming of our ice caps is progressing at a much faster and alarming rate than scientists have predicted in the past.

so stfu

Having it melt entirely might make it more easy to dig for dinosaur fossils.

The ice caps were not always there, they will not always be there.

Nothing we can do anymore to save it?
One degree hotter isn't gonna do **** when it's constantly -40 degrees Celsius..
-39? Yup it's gonna melt..

Sure it'll get reduced, and that's it.
OP will die ten times over before the climate gets anywhere close to the temperature you'd need to melt all the ice in Antarctica. Also it has land masses too, not just ice..

To all you idiots in the comments say stupid **** like "so what if all the ice in Antarctica melts". The problem is not the ice melting it's what happens when it does. since many of you seem to be intellectually challenged I'll make it simple for you by giving a example. imagine you have a full pool (this pool is a metaphor for the ocean) now you also have a slide with a giant chunk of ice on it . now what happens when you quickly melt that huge chunk of ice into the full pool ? that's right it over flows . now what do we call it when the ocean over flows onto the land ? that's right flooding, tidal waves etc . now do you understand why the ice melting is bad for humans ?

Yes, pay MORE tax so we can give it to the banks in "Global Warming, Carbon, Breathing Tax". HAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA. Coldest years ever recorded in known history are happening lately. HAHAHAHAHAHA.. Whoops, better change it to Climate-Change, or Spontaneous Polar Vortex, then, some rube will probably believe it.

So what if it's melting? I've no doubt it's cyclic. We've had ice ages before, and it warmed up in between each. Who's to say it's not naturally gonna get cooler or warmer? How highly we think of ourselves to say that the way it is during our generation is the way it's always been and the way it's always supposed to be.

Holy **** . I just realized that Game of thrones is a reference to this. All the politics of men, and none are taking into account the huge danger of ignoring all this. Holy **** .

Since I live on top of a mountain in South Wales, I'm almost looking forward to the point where polar ice melt causes sea levels to rise.
Not only do I get a nice beach side house, but also I get to watch all of these right-wing morons with their fingers in their ears shouting "la-la-la, climate change is a myth, man doesn't affect the environment" have their smug smiles washed away by cold sea water

Uh-oh, the people who like to cover their ears and refuse to take on any responsibility are showing.
"LEL global warmin happuns all de time in de worlds histury"
You're absolutely correct, BUT you're a ******* retard for not understanding that right now, people are speeding it up severely, and there is so much ******* proof of correlation between our CO2 and methane emissions and current climate change that I could just punch you all in the throat for just ignoring it and posting ridiculous sources of obvious biased republican **** heads that try way too hard to disprove everything that affects their lifestyles.
"omg den explain record low temperaturez"
Congratulations, you just proved that you have no ******* idea what you're talking about.

FunnyJunk is so full of retarded kids, it's not even cute.

Ok I work in Television News and have some points which I will try my best to summarise.

Climate change has been happening ever since we've had a climate.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuj_tlRRQdQ

The key thing that is "causing" Global Warming/Climate change, being Carbon Dioxide, is back to front. Rising temperatures cause Carbon Dioxide to rise and cooling temperatures cause it to drop. We are also in a deficit of Carbon Dioxide which plants love and want more of making them greener www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuj_tlRRQdQ

It's just a few scientists that doubt, there is a scientific consensus! Wrong, there is absolutely no consensus! www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1Xnr_Vwi_c

But even if we were wrong about the world warming up wouldn't we have improved our sustainability?
Wrong. Large quantities of land are being used to create biofuels which has resulted in a doubling in the cost of food, an actual need for surviving. Not to mention those who would benefit most from the carbon spewing technologies that we got to benefit from are keeping countries like Africa from developing.

Do the research.

The initial changes in temperature are explained by changes in the Earth’s orbit around the sun, which affects the amount of seasonal sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface. In the case of warming, the lag between temperature and CO2 is explained as follows: as ocean temperatures rise, oceans release CO2 into the atmosphere. In turn, this release amplifies the warming trend, leading to yet more CO2 being released. In other words, increasing CO2 levels become both the cause and effect of further warming. This positive feedback is necessary to trigger the shifts between glacials and interglacials as the effect of orbital changes is too weak to cause such variation. Additional positive feedbacks which play an important role in this process include other greenhouse gases, and changes in ice sheet cover and vegetation patterns.

Ofcourse climate change happens ever since we had a climate, that's not the issue here. The issue is that humans are speeding up the process at a worrying level, usually the planet can sustain the climate change because they remain always at a steady level. When volcanoes erupt, they emit particles into the atmosphere which reflect sunlight, and the planet cools. But when we add more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the planet warms. It's like two people throwing a ball at eachother and everytime adding a little bit more on the ball, eventually the ball becomes to big.

Over 95% of scientists accept that there is manmade climate change happening, that's an overwhelming consensus.

YOU do the research

If the ice melts, that just means we can build cities there.

Another bird-brained pseudo eco-friendly meme. Antarctic ice is currently at absolute record levels, as this article shows that is only a few days old. Left-wing do-gooders do not hesitate to spread lies just to make a point!

I like how you got thumbed down for this, but the most recent antarctic expedition to measure ice "melt" never made it where they were going because of sea ice.
