I'm gonna be totally serious for a moment.
The base premise of this story is a very common and very simple reason that many atheists are against religion as an institution. Nobody should have "crippling Catholic guilt" at 14 about ******* masturbating because their parents/priest told them they'd burn for eternity if they did.

I thumbed up, if for no other reason than that you were honest and serious about a serious issue....
When you associate guilt and self loathing with masturbation, and through that with sex you end up with one very ****** up individual. Immagine literally being raised to think that a normal impulse you have is disgusting in the eyes of an all seeing all knowing creator.... Inb4 "Oh well logic hur dur" When you are told some **** from birth and everybody around you reinforces it you tend not to question **** .

You wonder what the hell is wrong with you, and why you are the way you are, why can't you stop feeling like that why you're so broken, etc, etc. Any of you who've had experience with your own sexuality, or if you have a friend who's had trouble coming out of the closet because of religion... now imagine if it was like that for all sexuality.

And yes this issue is very close to me, as i masturbate a lot. Thank Cthulu i'm not catholic

I grew up religious and it was a belief that masturbation was a sin. Even now as a 23 year old adult, I can't do it without that crippling guilt that haunts me for days. It's a very lengthy process trying to "re-wire" those thoughts into believing it's a normal impulse, but I still can't shake the feeling that bad things will happen if I do it.

People believe I'm a virgin because I'm saving myself for marriage or that I'm just too picky; truth is I'm just far too scared.

I can stand for freedom of religion... but for **** sakes that **** borders on abuse.
It should be the same principle under which we don't let people use prayer to heal their sick children because we ******* have modern medicine.
Same goes for these kids... Even by the standards of religion, we all have sex drives and they were put there by god.

There is no reason to be teaching kids that..... Not that it matters cause no amount of logic can ever trump "god"
