Kinda like the people who say MLP are for children and go watch some random-ass anime.

If I said ''People are like ''No MLP is for childeren'' And then they go watch Frozen and Moe anime'' I would get thumbed down.

Honestly I tried MLP, I really did, but it's just not my cup of tea. My friend even referred me to his all time favorite episodes and even though they were okay it didn't seem like something I would go back to watch more of.

Regardless, they're still cartoons. And anyone that thinks differently is a delusional weeaboo.

Technically speaking yes, in the same sense that Archer is a cartoon. It's animation so it sort of fits the category if you ignore that cartoon is only used for western animation. However, all anime definitely doesn't fit in to the typical Sunday cartoon description.

I think most people have huge misconceptions about why MLP ever developed an adult fanbase, so before you rain your commie thumbs upon me, hear me out.

The **** people tell you to get you to watch MLP is almost all (excuse my pun) ********** .

MLP isn't about the "hidden adult humor", or the "banishing of dragons," or the "sonic rainbooms" (all things friends told me were in the show to get me to try it.)

MLP isn't badass, and everytime I see another Brony package or try to sell it that way, I start to cringe nowadays just because I know it's a sad attempt at misinformation. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show, but I can't name a single person who likes or loves the show *because* of any of the zingers sold here.

What actually has caught the attention of so many adults (and I'm convinced is the most important part of the show) is the vivid and well-written cast of characters. Their conflicts are never anything to write home about, but it doesn't matter. The characters grow on you. I don't mean to sound like a raging neckbeard (i'm honestly trying to tell you what actual bronies experience) -- but when any character on the show does anything, the act itself isn't judged (as you might, for say, almost any other character) -- rather, you sort of just sit back, laugh, and enjoy the fact that the character exists in their own right. It's like you're a close friend of the character, really.

It's the same feeling people got when they watched Friends or That Seventies Show, or really any good sitcom. You just sort of grow fond of the quirks and characteristics of that character and can enjoy almost anything they do.

That's the appeal of MLP. Well-written, well-casted, well-voice-acted, interesting, flawed characters.

And here's the dealio -- you will *NEVER* like the show on one, or two, or three episodes. Because it's not like Game of Thrones (which I love, btw) -- the plot doesn't grab you immediately. It's not about the plot. It's about the characters.

for me it's the fact that i can't take anything said in japanese seriously and i don't like dubs. the comedy doesn't appeal to me, i'm not much into fight scenes, don't like romance either and that eliminates almost all anime. not to mention the fact that i can't understand emotional attachemts to any animated characters. when a person plays a character and conveys emotions i can understand, but why should i feel bad when some drawn character x gets killed?

Your points are valid and i'm glad you handled that as maturely as you did as oppose to saying that all anime is bad and leaving it at that.

The fact that something is animated or not is absolutely no indication of its rating.
To think so is ******* daffy.

Anime literally are cartoons though. I love anime but they are objectively cartoons, and anyone who disagrees is an idiot who doesn't want to be looked down upon by strangers on the internet.

I love anime, and people who say they do not like it, or that it is for kids, just don't understand it well.

Animes like Gundam Wing are incredible because you can see the characters evolve through a struggle within a really good story/plot. Mobile suits in Gundam Wing, while ******* awesome, are not really what makes me like the series, they only complimented story/plot itself. Hell, a show like Gundam Wing is more thought engaging and creative than most shows on American TV in the last 10 years.

Anime is really just an umbrella term because there are so many different genres for kids to adults. You have shows like Hellsing to Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing to Detective Conan, and so forth. Americans have cartoons that are for adults, and kids too. Adults have shows like South Park, Family Guy, and the Simpsons while kids have, (insert modern garbage show here).

Cartoons typically in the United States are all directed with one pure goal, and that is to entertain kids, and the culture itself see's it that way too.

In regards to some comments I have seen:
For those who complain about anime lovers throwing anime in your face consider that any group has fanatics that will do that to you.

Shows like MLP are literally for young children, and I've seen some people claim they have references only adults would understand, but you know what? They are just using that to market towards that group called "bronies" who have wallets since it has gained popularity. I've watched a few episodes, and it's a nice kids show, but coming from someone who likes a show like Sailor Moon as a guy, I think you need to re-evaluate yourself if you are fanatical about MLP.

Anime can be also over dramatic, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

tldr:

Anime is just an umbrella term. There are good and bad animes for kids and adults. Just because you complain about one cartoon doesn't mean another is on the same level. Cartoons are good, but some are terrible.

Anime isn't all the same and grouping together the PG anime about girls in High School, with the more 'mature' anime with fighting, blood, swearing, and sex is stupid.

Anime is an animation style, not a base for the show's subject.

Its almost like people have different opinions and aren't all hive minds. People who hate anime and go to watch frozen are probably with their kids,
because people who don't watch anime actually have kids
User avatar #25 to #4 - thefates (08/02/2014) [-]
Or anime and cartoons are often just like any other TV series, except with animation. Seriously I hate faggots that say they hate one medium or the other. They literally both have the same problems unless you talk visuals.
