I just finished Puella Magi Madoka Magica and I was fairly surprised on how big of a twist this was. Is the movies worth watching or is it going to be like recaps of the show? also like...what happened to dem mahoe bitches in the other universe? The ones after Madoka made the wish and Homura came back with her ribbon, are they still mahoes?

Watch movie 3 now, it's the continuation of the series.
#950022 to #950012 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
the first two movies are recaps, the second movie is a little better than the anime because it's prettier. The third movie is a fucking game changer.
Anyone who doesn't like it is wrong.

new stuff hmm? I guess I'll check out movie 2 a bit and watch movie 3 then
#950029 to #950027 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
It's not really new stuff, but I definitely remember it being a little more dazzling.
Rebellion blows everything else out of the water though.
#950031 to #950029 - ehzio (05/24/2014) [-]
what is this Rebellion?

The third movie. They're Beginnings Story, Eternal Story and Rebellion Story respectively.

First two movies are recaps while the third movie is new material. Yeah, there's still mahou shoujo around.
#950016 to #950015 - ehzio (05/24/2014) [-]
so is it worth rewatching the 1 and 2 movie?

They barely ad anything so I'd suggest you to go straight to Rebellion

Urobuchi said that Homura spent about 100 years looping, and it was about a month each time. She's got 1200 months of Madoka-lovin' experience.

Of the three presented alternatives, (only two of which are really viable) Homura's choice was the best option. Unless Madoka was bullshitting her on the hillside, Homu did the right thing. Everyone lives now and everyone but Homura is happy, which is still a 80% success rate.
User avatar #950153 to #950123 - medianoche (05/24/2014) [-]
That¡s a little far-fetched don't you think?
User avatar #950157 to #950153 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
Nope.
Option 1: The girls break the seal without killing Homulilly, Madokami saves Homura, allowing the Kyubey's to observe the Law of Cycles and potentially exploit it.
Madoka is screwed, the others are screwed, and it could potentially lead to a horrific perversion of Madoka's wish. 5/5 alive but 0/5 happy.

Option 2: The girls kill Homulilly inside her labyrinth like Homura initially wanted them to. Madoka doesn't have to intervene but they ad to kill their friend and the labyrinth could potentially collapse around them causing who knows what amount of unpleasantness. 4/5 alive and 0/5 happy
Option 3: Homura wrests control from Madokami and reinvents the universe. Because she's in control, witches no longer form from Magical Girls, rather they're residue from her initial transformation. The Kyubeys are used as tools to collect those leftover curses, likely in a manner that sucks for them. The girls are brainwashed into living happy lives similar to the ones they lived in Homura's labyrinth. Everyone is happy save Homura who knows that she'll eventually be confronted by Madoka. 5/5 alive 4/5 happy
Homura sacrificed her happiness for the girls salvation, the exact thing she thought that Madoka was doing and wanted to save her from.

If Homura would've done that then Mahou Shoujos, Witches, Nightmares wouldn't exist, this being QBs creations, but as the magical girl exists is safe to assume incubators are still using them to avoid heat death and if they are we know how that Magical Girl system works (pain, despair, pain, despair)
#950152 to #950148 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
Homura's changes left "curse residue" of sorts on the universe. She needs magical girls to get rid of it. Given the way she says it, there are two possible ways that she's using Kyubeys in her plan. She could either be using them as vessles for the curses, meaning the girls have to beat the tar out of them to eliminate the curse or she's using them in in a similar manner to how they were used with Wraiths, which is as receptacles for the prize for beating a witch, like little fuzzy trash cans. She has complete control over them because it's her universe. She was able to prevent Sayaka from using her Witch, so we can assume she's got similar control over other witches as well.
In Madoka's universe, there would always have to be magical girls to fight wraiths. In Homura's universe, their opposition is controlled and created by her, so they may not even need to fight at all.
User avatar #950132 to #950123 - medianoche (05/24/2014) [-]
But withouth incubators the universe is doom to fall into heat death and if there are still mahou shoujos that means they are bound to suffer and become witches because Homura destroyed Madoka's Yuri Valhalla
#950134 to #950132 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
They only become witches because of the way the QBs set them up to. Homura rewrote the universe in a more extensive manner than Madoka did, so it stands to reason that she could eliminate that part of their contract. Heat Death is a problem for science fiction to deal with, not little girls. Kyubey said at the end that human emotion was too unstable to be used effectively.
And since she's effectively created a universe in defiance of another law, she could in theory have thrown thermodynamics out the window too.
Homura won.
User avatar #950126 to #950123 - medianoche (05/24/2014) [-]
ehz better not read that Except that both Sayaka and Madoka (And who knows who else) feel wrong in that universe and are not very likely to be happy in it and that's without taking count of the fact she brainwashed and practically slaved them and that we don't know what happens with the Heat death or the Law of Cycle. Sorry but the end doesn't justify the means
#950129 to #950126 - fargfive (05/24/2014) [-]
Good point. DON'T READ ANY OF THIS
They're no more brainwashed than they were in her labyrinth, where Homura was the only one who noticed anything was off. As for the law of the cycle, because Homura has eliminated the Kyubeys as players in the entropy market, we can assume that the Puella Magi can hunt down witches (left over from Homura's creating the universe) more or less without consequences. Sayaka, Mami and Kyouko still have their soul gem rings, so we can assume they're still in business.
As long as the memory wipe holds up, Homura will have essentially turned the series into a generic magical girl anime. She's not necessarily evil, so it's unlikely that she'd leave needless suffering in her universe, especially considering that it's designed to be a haven for Madoka who will probably end up becoming and magical girl.

I recommend just watching Rebellion now. You're not missing anything in the second movie except for flashier fights.

It's up to you. They're only recaps with better animation so if that sounds good to you then go for it. That, or you can just move on to the third movie and suffer like the rest of us.
