The only complaints I've heard about America in terms of that area are South Koreans being unhappy with some of the things the US soldiers have done in their time there, such as the incident where two school girls were run over by a military vehicle and the soldiers driving it didn't suffer any consequence for it.

NATO, and UN Nations on the security council polled major population centres in their countries and found that the majority would be in favour of a lawful intervention and liberation of North Korea (this includes America). Soooooo, I don't really know what you're talking about... I think you're getting the opinion of war in the middle east mixed up with war in general.

its of popular belief that north Korea isn't trying to attack america or its allies. we are protecting south Korea but us stopping north Korea from being north Korea is like when everyone "backed" us and wanted us to help the rebels in Syria but not do anything themselves.

It's not about whether we can do it. It's about whether it's worth it. Projecting enough force to kill millions of people is very costly and somewhat risky, even for a superpower.

Well America could easily intervene now. For two reasons,

1) China recently declared they will not back anything North Korea does and wont intervene if U.S troops are sent to N.K.

2) Face it, in terms on military strength the U.S has China beat. It still would be a very bloody war with many casualties but the U.S has air superiority, troops are trained better all China may have they benefits them is numbers of troops.

Because North Korea has the fifth largest military in the world, and the largest reserve of soldiers int he world. They are also strong allies with China, the country with the largest active military in the world. The thing that makes them the most dangerous is that they not only have access to WMD's (or will soon), but are also willing to use them, unlike the majority of nuclear powers in the world.

The countries the US invades in the middle east usually have a small military, much less advanced weaponry than the US, and are on the verge of economic collapse or civil war already.

one point of contention...or maybe a couple.

Now, I have about as much access to the specifications of the North Korean Army and Air Force's equipment as you do, but from what I've gathered thus far is this:

- Their tanks are of highly obsolete Soviet designs, with a few WWII T-34s still being on the roster. The majority of their tank corps seems to consist of Soviet and Chinese-licensed copies of T-54s and T-62s, with a few IS-series machines intermixed.

- Their wholly indigenous-designed tanks, namely their most 'up to date' designs, are a laughing stock compared to the machines that most of the World Powers field nowadays. Purely on weight alone, their "Chonma-Ho" MBT weighs a whole 30 tons less than say the Abrams, Challenger II, or Leopard 2A6. More maneuverable, potentially, but at the same time, less weight = less armor.

Onto their Air Forces....Once again, the majority of it seems to be comprised mostly of older Soviet and Chinese License-Copies of Soviet designs. The Most modern machines they have can stand their own in the right hands, but sources say that they have extremely limited hours behind the stick, compared to American, British, or German fighter pilots. Also, Parts and fuel are in very short supply, be it for Air or Ground Forces. Their ready rate is abysmal.

Now, as I said, these are just sources I can garner being on this side of the whole thing. Can they be lying to us to make us think they're weaker than they actually are? No telling. Am I on an NSA watchlist for googling 'North Korean Military Vehicles'? Probably, I don't really care.

Point being....I think they're just posturing to make themselves look better than they actually are.

...in all honesty though, as a hobby historian and collector of Militaria, I would like some of the stuff they supposedly still use....I mean, original PPSh-41 Submachine Guns? Yes please.

actually they have the largest with a third of its citizens in the military, and out number all us military personelles by 5 times. even through their WMD can't the us directly, they are not beyond detonating them in north korea to kill us troops.

anyways attacking nk would be a bloodbath. the best way is to watch and let it die by itself.

I would like to point out that we have the Aegis system, and air superiority. With both of those we are pretty well protected. If one WMD is launched we would most likely retaliate in kind, and because of Aegis ours would more likely hit, which would do quite a bit of damage. I'm just saying America isn't in as weak a position as most people want to believe.

If they did try to hit us with a WMD, and we fired one back you have to realize, that we would be frowned upon just as much if not more for using ours. Not because they didn't deserve it, but because they're the "Still developing country with people ruled by dictators" and we're this warfare superpower, with a fully developed country. (That's slowly devolving.) Not saying other countries would look down at us, but a lot of society's of idiots would. If they did launch anything at us we'd have to have boots on the ground and keep civilian casualty's as low as possible or else it'd basically turn into another episode of the american citizens complaining that we're at war for no reason.

You have to remember North Korea does not care about it's international image and NK is surrounded by China and SK the fallout would affect both countries and the political damage would be massive
