This is Karl Slayer.
Parodied today at the age of SB, He played in the movie,
The Wizard of Oz, in 1939. There were 159 munchkins in the
movie, he played the trumpet in it. There are only 2 of the
actors left alive today. He had a messed up childhood.
When he was a kid his parents tried strecthing- him out to
make him taller and went threw a lot of pain. He was only
paid 50 dollars to act in the movie. He use to joke around
and say that the dog that played Toto was paid more then
him. Just thought you guys should know about this legend.

Legend because he played a role and he was abused?

I think that he survived being mistreated for being a midget and having to deal with that **** back then when people were more cruel to them.

Dealing with that, the **** pay and being able to live to 93 and have a well off family. I respect anyone who can deal with abuse and bad financial times (ones not caused by drugs or something bad like that) and make the best of it

This was my first thought as well. FJ should really stop idolizing anyone who has starred in anything and dies.

He was payed $50 in 1939? This is the modern day equivalent of $800.

What. A. Legend. So. Inspiring.

Sure it's sad he died, but the same goes for just about anybody. Please get a grip people.

Oh, come on. Don't pretend you gave a **** about him (or even heard of him) while he was alive.
Don't try and call him a legend. You've never even heard of the guy until he died.
It's sad he died. His family and friends must be devastated. Maybe he was even a good actor, but don't act like you cared when he was alive.

I agree. He wasn't a legend for being in a subpar movie. He barely even acted in it; it was a small role. Sure, I feel for the guy, and I personally respect him, but he is by no means a legend. Pretending to give a **** just becuase he died isn't cool.

Well, it's not subpar by any means. I have to disagree with imadps on this one, but it is tremendously overrated.
The songs were fantastic- Over the Rainbow is still the greatest movie song ever.
However, the fact (and the great plot) that it is such a classic makes most people overlook some of the laughably bad acting and somewhat lazy special effects (by today's standards. People swooned over that back in the day).
