Yeah but castles are ******* cool. Apartments should be rock-bottom, last resort housing, just above Mobile Home in a trailer park.
User avatar #7 to #5 - Funnel (01/07/2016) [-]
Keep in mind that they are freezing cold, have horrible air, maintenance would be a full time job in itself and no plumbing. There's a reason why rich people that lived in castles has a big staff of helpers. Also you're not likely to get a job anywhere near a castle.
User avatar #8 to #7 - heartlessrobot (01/07/2016) [-]
That's why you tax the local peasants and make them work for you.
User avatar #10 to #7 - DivineInfinity (01/08/2016) [-]
"Hey Bob, what about this castle?"

"What the hell, Margaret!? Have you seen the size of this estate? You know I don't like to commute!"

I don't think you're gonna live there to find work in the neighbourhood
User avatar #26 to #7 - distortedflare (01/08/2016) [-]
If you have a couple million to piss away on a castle i am sure money is not that much of an issue
User avatar #23 to #7 - trollmobile (01/08/2016) [-]
the freezing cold, horrible air, and plumbing/electricity problems, could easily be fixed by a person with the funds.
the problem is that a lot of these castles are often protected, as in you're not allowed to modify them.
and noone wants to live without electricity or plumbing.
#34 to #23 - anon (01/08/2016) [-]
If I pay $5 million dollars for a thing, I expect to be able to smear **** all over it set it on fire then level it with explosives and bulldozers if I so choose. Especially if its in the middle of 50 acres, which I should be able to bar anyone from entering.
User avatar #36 to #34 - trollmobile (01/08/2016) [-]
they are historical sites.
different conutries have different rules on how you are allowed to treat their historical sites.

you are informed of all this before you buy it.

"if you buy this, you can not modify it, or face punishment"
"ok" *levels it with bulldozers and explosives, gets arrested*
"i paid 5 million dollars for this! i can do whatever i want with it"

no, you can't
you clearly agreed that you could not, when you bought it.
#37 to #36 - anon (01/08/2016) [-]
I know, I guess my point was that because of this I would not buy it.

If I have to pay $5 Million for a thing and still don't OWN it, then I am not interested.

TFW few developed countries let you truly own land anymore.
User avatar #38 to #37 - trollmobile (01/08/2016) [-]
which is exactly the point.
that's why they're so (relatively) cheap
because there is no demand for them
because they're **** to live in, and you can't legally change that.
#46 to #5 - anon (01/08/2016) [-]
They call condominiums in NYC apartments. It's not a rental, you own it.
#45 to #5 - anon (01/08/2016) [-]
You realize these apartments are in/near New York City - that is literally what is causing all of teh demand for these apartments - it's not about the apartment but about living in NYC.
User avatar #56 to #45 - heartlessrobot (01/08/2016) [-]
Don't live in NYC, problem solved.

> sell soul to satan for money to light and heat it
> start cooking meth for money to clean it and maintain grounds
> property tax

Rent out parts of it to cover these costs. But yeah, that's where these castles get expensive.
User avatar #35 to #24 - ompalomper (01/08/2016) [-]
Expensive? ***** more like un maintainable. It simply isn't feasible to own and maintain properties like these anymore, the cost of the staff needed is simply to high.

The most valuable thing you get is the land and that is what surprise me. It seems like the land should be more expensive than that.
User avatar #58 to #35 - haroldsaxon ONLINE (01/08/2016) [-]
I think the land is cheaper because of laws protecting it. It would be very hard to build anything on most of them.
User avatar #47 to #3 - sonsofsol (01/08/2016) [-]
Also castles tend to be in the middle of ************* nowhere. At least the grotty undeveloped lot I can pitch a tent in is in Brooklyn.

In France we have a **** lot of taxes on everything, and those castles are in the middle of nowhere + The land wich is attached to the castles is usually protected, not legally buildable...

You can buy one of these, but all your wealth will go into taxes, an you will end up living as an ermit in the middle of the forest, hunting and cutting your own firewood...
User avatar #17 to #3 - WwIiSsPp (01/08/2016) [-]
if i was even in the ballpark to consider buying a 5.6 million dollar castle in Europe, i dont think heating costs/property taxes would be something that is totally concerning to my pocket
User avatar #6 to #3 - heartlessrobot (01/07/2016) [-]
Just robe yourself in furs and linens if you get cold.
And a stick wrapped in pitch-soaked cloth is cheap.
User avatar #13 to #6 - loopymoomoo (01/08/2016) [-]
also, who needs to pay for taxes if they think its abandoned
its not
just inhabited by some creepy ******

User avatar #11 - turkeyslapper ONLINE (01/08/2016) [-]
A lot of them are probably falling apart and will need massive repairs, also the upkeep is very expensive. No its not cheaper.
User avatar #29 - theguywhoaskswhy (01/08/2016) [-]
My parents are thinking of buying a castle.
Yes, that is a sentence I just said.
Meanwhile I can just barely afford to pay $100 rent a week.
User avatar #30 to #29 - xapplemanx (01/08/2016) [-]
go live with them
User avatar #32 to #30 - xgeneration (01/08/2016) [-]
If they're not trying to help him with his rent what makes you think they're going to let him with live them
#40 to #32 - bazda (01/08/2016) [-]
It's a castle. I'm sure he could find a room somewhere that they'd never visit.
#39 to #29 - anon (01/08/2016) [-]
Get into their will. Then carve out their hearts and eat them to gain their money-making powers. And to inherit their money.
#41 - bazda (01/08/2016) [-]
Well yeah, it costs a lot, but then you get to live in one of the top 2 ********* cities in the US!

In my field, if I go on the predictable curve for my pay grade, I should be making 6 figures within the next 10 year, so if I save it all for 26 years, I can afford the cheapest castle.

in 36 or so years you bitches can peep me in my newly bought castle, fighting off Hungarians and **** .

>save up, buy castle
>rename "LGBTQ+ Castle"
<seceed from the United Kingdom
>International headlines, UK delegates arrive
>call the UN, inform them I am an African non-binary pansexual with severe PTSD
>tell them I am phobic of warfare and that an invasion by the UK would trigger me
>demand a safe home for LGBT activists from cishet ********* who say hello on the train
>UN finally gives up and tells the UK I can keep "LGBTQ+ Castle, Queertopia"

Now here's my master plan;
>convert the entire basement level into torture dungeons
>invite people from /pol/ to come wrok as "Fun Police"
>invite Tumblr to come share in my glorious new feminist utopia
>upon their arrival, gag the SJWs and lock them in the basement
>Fun Police get to work beating them to death
Continue until the world is free

there's a reason not everyone in France live in castles
#53 to #50 - mastercolossus (01/08/2016) [-]
i believe the reason is money and castles are engineered for comfort. most are installed with modern ac systems too.

User avatar #25 - vladhellsing (01/08/2016) [-]
There are castles in France that are selling for cheaper than a standard 4 bedroom house in Australia.
User avatar #20 - cobaltblazer ONLINE (01/08/2016) [-]
Well as some people have mentioned the castles have poor heating, no plumbing, other issues etc.
What's an expected price to have a whole new one made with all modern day stuff?
#21 to #20 - mastercolossus (01/08/2016) [-]
i could sell the last one and then buy and install whatever is necessary in the last one and still cover expenses for all of the rest to be converted as well.
then live off the rest of the money on my super comfortable castle for the rest of my life.
User avatar #9 - burningchimera ONLINE (01/08/2016) [-]
The price for an apartment, or the whole damn complex?
User avatar #15 to #9 - nignogprime ONLINE (01/08/2016) [-]
Well this is downtown New Yolk so it's gonna be pretty pricey.
User avatar #33 - thattessachick (01/08/2016) [-]
There's a really ****** apartment in my town that has four or five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a tiny kitchen for £1.5 million. To make it worse, there's nothing of interest in this town and the internet's ******* appalling.
User avatar #31 - therealdolan (01/08/2016) [-]

We sure they didn't **** up and add a zero on the end of some of these?
User avatar #16 - iamrexraptor (01/08/2016) [-]
but you have to live in europe for most of these, you can get acreage in the backwoods of any southern state for dirt ass cheap, 1,300 dollars an acre where my family is from on my dad's side (missouri) and that's on a river
