#159 to #153 - jujuface (10/29/2015) [-]
Yes, and the amount of dirt on top of their caskets will even out too. Except how is that at all relevant?
I'm gonna use an extreme example just to drill this point across...
If hitler got the same mourning as ghandi, does that make it right? Does it matter at all that it evened out? No, because hitler deserves no mourning, and ghandi deserves a lot.
User avatar #160 to #159 - elcreepo (10/29/2015) [-]
Calm the **** down.

It's relevant because OP was bitching about how Jobs got all this mourning and Gates hasn't gotten **** .

And some people really liked Jobs and his work. They don't care that he didn't donate to a ton of charity like gates. That's okay. You like Gates and his philanthropic work, that's okay too.

Untie your panties for ****** sake, this is exactly what I was talking about when I said that Gates has just as much of a moronic fanbase as Jobs.

"They don't care that he didn't donate to a ton of charity like gates. That's okay."
You mean like yourself? I don't expect anyone to donate their money, no matter how many boatloads they have. But maybe if steve jobs didn't deny paternity of his daughter, or fire people without notice or severance, or completely **** over wozniak, I would have a little more respect for what he got right.

As for bill gates, he's totally incompetent and seemingly disinterested in microsoft. He's lost his touch with software and the team that's managing his company is complete **** . But he's not an asshole, so at least there's that.

Inequality will always be there, poverty, war, disease, everything we have tried to combat and fight against, in the end people will still be poor, no matter how far we progress, there will always be the downtrodden, anyways, you get my point.

does that mean we shouldnt try? hell no. The difference we make in the peoples lives who do become affected by what bill gates and the many countless others (like he said) working tirelessly taking care of those who need help, the difference is what makes fighting the inevitable worth it.

Bill donates to development and distribution of vaccines and medicine. His idea is that if you cut the endemic diseases of Africa, the people will be strengthened, and thus be able to stand on their own feet. Which makes sense, because donating to development of countries is an investment, while donating to food handouts is a temporary solution to a permanent problem.

100 billion may not be the world's salvation, but there are ******** out there cumulatively giving away larger sums that ends up not changing anything.

I believe the way he plans on handling his money with his children, after his death is what I respect most about him. He plans on only giving $10 million of his $70 billion. Granted $10 million is still a large inheritance but only about 0.0001% of his fortune. In doing that, he's sort of telling them that he trusts his kids to make something of themselves more than he trusts money.
User avatar #67 to #47 - thedungeonmaster (10/29/2015) [-]
Still though, it's not hard to make something of yourself with $10 million. You could put that all into bonds or GIC's and live off of the interest for the rest of your life.

#126 to #61 - thefates (10/29/2015) [-]
captchakid is correct. The economy's debt is actually relatively harmless because the huge bulk of it is not foreign debt but debt that the US owes to its own citizens due to the selling of Federal Securities by the FED. It's a tool that the FED uses to control inflation by monetary policy but it also causes the US national debt to climb. In the long run however, this shouldn't have any real effect because the population is growing at a rate that should keep up with the debt until the next market crash (at which point the value should roll over at the recovery period.) In fact this act, while eventually bad for the country, has prevented our economic demise for many years.

Unix based systems are statistically more secure than windows. The software is arguable. Photoshop and the Adobe suite ran better on OS X than it did on my windows computer with 24 ******* GB of ram. And who says I even like OS X? **** ****** I'm using ubuntu 15.10. The only thing windows does better than the 3 months I tried OS X and the 5 years I've used Linux is "muh gaymes."
#54 to #37 - ellojello (10/29/2015) [-]
Unix based systems are not statistically more secure, that's pure fallacy. It's true the net number of viruses and exploits is much lower for Unix/Mac, but that is because (even with the recent surge of people switching to Unix/Max) the Windows OS still has the vast majority of the market share, so people mainly focus on ******* with PCs and not Macs or Linux Distros.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Here are some links:

www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0

This link shows the market share of each OS as of Sept. 2015. Even now, in 2105, Windows XP (which they have discontinued entirely) has a larger user base than Max OS X (XP: 12.21%, OSX: 4.91%). The market is currently dominated by Win 7, at 56%. This is proving the point that those people who are interested in making viruses, rootkits, trojans, etc. will be focused on the major OS, of which Linux Distros and Macs COMBINED are less than 10%. (I.e. very few people are going to take the time to break them since there is relatively little information to be had and chance of finding a target.

www.gfi.com/blog/most-vulnerable-operating-systems-and-applications-in-2014/

That one shows the number of vulnerabilities reported in each operating system in 2014, I'll reference them as (Total:High:Medium:Low Threat Vulnerabilities). You'll notice that Max OS X have the most vulnerabilities across the board (147:64:67:16), followed by iOS, then Linux Kernels (119:24:74:21); the most vulnerable Windows machine is Windows Server 2008 (38:26:12:0), followed by Windows 7 (36:25:11:0).

You might argue "well that is just what is reported, maybe no one reported anything for Windows because Windows suxxx." To which I would reply as follows: Windows has the majority market share, so it is reasonable to assume there are some bright people looking for the exploits on their own time. But further, and even more importantly, Windows has almost 100% market share for US government computers; these computers are at risk from foreign governments and are protected by the best and brightest minds in computer science that Uncle Sam can afford and they want Microsoft to patch as many holes as Microsoft can because it makes their IT security jobs easier; so they report everything they find. The business sector, especially Wall Street, is similar. They run almost entirely Windows Machines and also have geniuses paid to protect them (they are at the most threat from civilian hackers looking for money/personal info). So, in short, there are plenty of people looking for and reporting on vulnerabilities in Windows machines, so it is not under reporting leading to the low counts for Windows vulnerabilities, it is the simple fact that Widows OSs are more secure (though, as already stated, much more frequently attacked).

You might also argue that Linux/Max machines are more secure since they essentially force you to run as a user all the time (instead of an admin) so anything that wants to be installed needs to ask explicit permission and get a password. But, that said, Windows has been doing that for years as well. It was an option on XP (though most didn't choose it) and it is the native setting on Windows Vista, 7, and 8.1.

Further, I think you should reassess your stance if you honestly think Ubuntu works better than any Windows operating system for the amount of time you have to put into configuring it. If it did, everyone (including the government and big business) would be using it; but instead, they are all using Windows.

Don't get me wrong, I love dicking with my Ubuntu partition, I even installed it on my old fat PS3 before they took away the option to partition; but the 'opinion' that it is superior is demonstratively incorrect.
User avatar #39 to #37 - BraindeadBuddha (10/29/2015) [-]
Yeah, but it's not like people didn't develop **** to mess with Unix. Download some good protection software and don't be an idiot, then Windows is fine.
Ubuntu is superior in many ways though, no argument there. But it's besides the point, they're not Apple.
My argument that mac is comparatively worse still stands, shelling out much more than necessary for some white piece of plastic with the easiest breakable charger is ******* dumb. Is it the props you get from people around you? A style choice to have a Mac? Then fine, just be honest about it.

You mean AAC? Are you ******* serious? AAC is a standard. It's commonly used and is measurably better than MP3 at the same bit rate and file size. It is now the default audio encoding for YouTube. You know, the most commonly used video service on the internet? And no one is forced to use iTunes. Any dumbass can download a 3rd-party player that supports AAC.

Christfag here

There's a story in the book of Luke somewhere about a guy who gives a ton of money to his church Or to the poor, I can't remember because he's rich and he can. Then a poor widow gives two coppers because it's pretty much all she has. God favored the poor widow.

I know nobody asked, but it's related so there.
User avatar #132 to #85 - relvel (10/29/2015) [-]
Yeah. In the story, you donated to the church by pouring all the coins into a big brass tuba-funnel-thing. Rich people would pour giant bags of money into them, making a big clanging sound. Everybody would hear the sound and pay attention to the donator, and they would be viewed as a generous and kind person, even though they only wanted attention. When the old woman placed her two copper coins, one bigger than the other and misshapen, into the funnel, nobody heard it and payed attention to her. Except for God.

Can we all go back to the good old days when everybody looked up to Bill Gates instead of that ******* Steve Jobs? The bastard has two movies after him for being a pretentious cunt and a massive thief.

Not to be a pain but he wont be the most generous philanthropist of all time.... Andrew Carnegie for example donated nearly all of hist fortune which would be worth $374 billion today. makes me happy to see someone make such a large positive impact on the world. People have given more than him but i don't think anyone has allocated their wealth so intelligently. Especially with his work against polio in Africa. instead of donating to a private college or church he has helped those most in need.

We forget that Bill Gates pushes and funds the common core program and convinces other rich people to do the same.
He ***** people over left right and centre but because he looks a bit weak and nerdy people love him.

Bill Gates is not a role model and is in fact, far from it.

Steve Jobs was a prick but he was a good businessman, you're not a good businessman if you don't **** people over. Rich people always get rich at someone elses expense, this is how the world works.

Steve Jobs was a good role model for people that wanted to be successful.
Bill Gates is a good role model for people that want to drop out of college and hope their idea of real beer goggles takes off.
#42 to #38 - anon (10/29/2015) [-]
common core? you guys still bitch about it like it was the most aweful thing on earth
#70 to #42 - anon (10/29/2015) [-]
Common Core has good points and bad points. The bad points are over mind-numbingly stupid procedural things that do no child any good.
#97 to #70 - anon (10/29/2015) [-]
Actually, the method on the top right makes a lot of sense to teach to children, because it shows how and why the traditional method works- actually, it is the traditional method, but with each digit separated out and zeros added to show the quantity it actually represents. So it's great as an introduction to addition, but schools shouldn't spend more than a few days on it.

I don't know what the **** they're doing in the bottom right panel, though.
