Halfway through the video I shared the link with my grandpa. Who is currently 87 years old, he loves guns. I shared it and then finished watching the video.
Oh yea. I had a busy day so thanks for reminding me
His reaction really surprised me, he said "What a beauty, good thing it was put to good use" (translated from Dutch) .
Turns out my grandpa is a sick **** . And I love him for it.
It's late here so I won't be getting any reply until tomorrow. I can totally imagine his face being full of passion and joy seeing that gun being made perfectly.. And then when the chicken thing suddenly happens his heart will be broken.
suprisingly the british are also a very big name, perdy is one brand which have being making guns and rifles for generations, they're the royal familys personal gunsmiths
Did you ever hear the joke about the mechanic? He worked at the same company for fourty years before he took a retirement package. A few years later, the firm he worked for had a big project, hundreds of millions of dollars on the line... But there was a fault in one of the machines. It kept shutting down randomly, and no one could figure out what was going wrong. Eventually, someone rang the old mechanic. He said: "Sure, I'll come in, but if I fix it I want 20,000 dollars". The company wasn't too happy, but the machine went down again, so they agreed. The mechanic walked in, checked the machine over and then calibrated one gear slightly higher. They re-started the machine, it worked perfectly and the mechanic went home.
Two weeks later, the mechanic rang up for his check. "Wellll" said the CFO, we decided we weren't going to pay you that". "Why?" Said the mechanic, "Didn't it work?" "No, it works great," said the CFO "but you only did 20 minutes work!"
And the mechanic replied: "20 minutes work, yes. But 20 minutes work with 40 years of experience".
Ever hear that if you're good at something, you wont do it for free? Add to that the possibility of high-quality materials and craftsmanship, and you have an expensive item.
Also, luxury items are just that, luxury. Therefore you have no need of them, and can be expensive. Ever seen a luxury car? You may have noticed that for how they perform they aren't worth the price, very few luxuries are. They're a status symbol, or item of collection. This shotgun is probably a lot more reliable than a car though, since a failure can result in serious injury while a car failing happens far slowly over time, and is maintenance heavy.
Now you're gettin it. The point of luxury is to look good, that's it. It's like a trophy wife that can do nothing but look good and who's thoughts consist of white noise and farts.
Below is a conversation between myself and this girl I know. She quite the animal lover, and while not a 100% strict vegan, she does what she can to stem the suffering of animals. All of this is important to the conversation.
Me: I'd share that video with you, but you really wouldn't like it.
Her: What video
Me: It's a video of a shotgun being made. One that requires about 18 months and, like, 6 different people working on it. But you wouldn't like it.
Her: Things like that interest me up to three minutes.
Me: It's a little over 2 minutes. But you really won't like it.
Her: Why the **** do you keep saying that, like you're trying to use reverse psychology or something
Me: No, I'm not. I just know 100% that you won't like the video I was watching.
Her: ******* send it to me, you nimrod
Me: You really wanna do this?
Her: I'm going to punch you in the face.
Me: Well, it works on my phone, but you really should trust me sometimes. /Amazing+gunsmith/movies/5683307
There ya go.
Her: OH GOD
THE ENDING
Whyyyyyyuuuuuyyyyy
Me: Maybe you should listen once in a while.
Beautiful lmao. Sorry I had to do that (not really), but when I got that video I absolutely HAD to make that edit Seriously though, these videos of metal working, guncrafting, woodworking, etc are awesome. I wish there were more videos of that quality out there.
I just got a new HD mounted camera about 10 minutes ago in the post. I'm thinking about mounting it over in my workshop over the table. I can get some footage of me working on wood, and metal again when I get back around to it, and edit them all nice and purdy-like.
I'll have to start on my next build, and I don't know when that will be since I'm probably gonna be making customs from commission instead of a base stock for people to buy. I do have a coffin shaped shadow box that I want to turn into a personal bass guitar, might do that.
