Luke may have been able to convey more emotion than any words could in the amazing ending we got...but I agree...the body language of TR-8R is immense, full of rage, full of fire...we thought he died for our spins, but he's back. If Kylo could survive a bowcaster to the stomach, why not FN-2199?
He was there for comic relief, and failed at it. He wasn't funny. Didn't have any trouble firing at his former collegues, quickly left his first battle which is strange for someone who has been a trained killer from birth.
Can't agree with you there, m9. I thought his jokes are well delivered. How important he is to the plot will be determined in the next movies. Aside from humor though, he gave the writers more to work with. If Rey is the only "hero"-type character then it's too predictable and everyone knows she's gonna be the one to save the day and destroy the first order and **** . Finn may not be a Jedi but he's gonna find his place in the fight just like Han Solo did. He was a smuggler turned hero and a Stormtrooper turned hero shouldn't be that much different or any less excusable.
It was pretty obvious to me that Rey was gonna be the hero from the start. But dont get me wrong I loved the movie. I just really hate Finn, he's not the cold, badass ex-startrooper that I want him to be.
Now that's a pretty legit complaint. He's a little too goofy for someone who was trained to kill. However, he actually is an effective fighter and believable in that way. He could have been done better.
I think there's a difference between trained to kill and a trained killer. What we saw was his first raid/mission, and he clearly didn't agree with what happened, and didn't want to be a paid killer where he had to watch his friends die. Remember, he was a janitor at a base before, so he also wasn't given jobs of great responsibility before that mission, so I could see how he could be goofy.
tl;dr he was trained in combat, but he wasn't a killer, and his previous job of little responsibility could have led to him having the chance to be goofy.
I still hold on to Finn's janitorial career being a lie. Why would you bring a janitor for something as apparently essential as finding the map to Luke?
I would argue that the problem was the opposite. He might have been a bit too individualistic, but the other stormtroopers didn't really seem to stand out from each other, and basically were robots. Even if you train somebody from birth to be a soldier, you'll still have more than one rebelling, and they won't all be perfect robots.
or did you just think it was a super serious moment that han asked to borrow the wookie bowcaster simply because he liked the weapon a bit more than his own pistol.
or that they wasted time dumping phasma in a garbage chute when they had to go find rey.
everyone rooted for FN-2199 to kill him because it's a storm trooper finally kicking ass, showing that they're no longer gunfodder in the series. they're soldiers, they're actual threats.
and because finn was a bitch. don't try to justify finn. every tiem you say you like him you just prove star wars was made for sad pathetic cretons like you
