They do not eat insects, and get all calcium and nutrition from rodents. (Although you CAN get rabbit/quail if you want to spend a fortune.) And if you're curious, those tiny tiny baby milk/corn snakes aren't meant to eat insects either. They eat lizards, lizard tails, pinkie mice, or..chopped mice.. BUT baby ball pythons are big enough to eat frozen/thawed pinkie rats sold at the pet store in packages. =3 About a dollar each. Rats are more nutritious than mice, so some pet stores only feed mice to keep them babies a little longer. People are more willing to impulse buy the babies.

Excuse the inexperienced question, but what are the reddish dots around the top of the mouth? Just curious...
User avatar #129 to #117 - vaporwing (11/03/2013) [-]
Those reddish dots are called Heat Pits. Basically help them hunt at night. Pretty damn cool if you ask me

it's a predator with natural thermal vision, I don't think anything in the nature can ******* top that. Pretty damn cool doesn't even describe this.

Those holes are called "labial pits" or "heat pits"; they are important in hunting and thermoregulation because they contain heat-sensing organs.

I'm pretty sure they're heat sensors or 'heat sensor pits'

I would recommend Backwater Reptiles for Ball Pythons. They feed thawed food, all of the snakes are captive bread, handle able (within reason) straight out of the box, and they are cheaper than both Petco and Petsmart by 5 USD. That and they have some serious quality stock and don't overstress the animals like a petstore does. They ship all animals overnight and they arrive the next day, alive and healthy.

Yep, I've gotten a looot of reptiles in the mail.
