Whenever I go to movies, I sit in the seat closest to the entrance, pull out my knife and hold it in my lap, and spend more time staring at that little hallway for a gunman than I do watching the movie.
Before you say I'm paranoid, I live in Aurora, where this ****** tried to be an evil Batman.

I am now aware you live in Aurora, where that ****** tried to be an evil Batman. I would still say you're paranoid.

I was always taught that if you're in a hostage situation against a lone gunman and they are within striking distance, you go for the takedown. Often they are not expecting retaliation, and if you can disarm/distract them you at least buy some time for others to escape or ideally to help you further disarm them (strength in numbers). A little thing I learned is that if you do end up in a gun tug of war with the gunman, they will likely be focused entirely on getting the gun back (object of power) meaning he will be too distracted to block punches, elbows, or whatever else you can throw at him without letting go (eye gouging and crotch kicking are encouraged, this is life or death so anything goes, don't hold anything back). The point is that if you are in this situation you are better off giving the gunman a run for their money than cowering, because it's likely that they were planning to kill you regardless of whether you comply with demands or not. Obviously if there are multiple gunmen involved then you have to be a lot more cautious, because no matter what some 'badass' tries to tell you, it's nearly impossible to singlehandedly disarm multiple gunmen at once without getting shot (unless they are the most incompetent criminals on the planet). At that point staying calm, careful planning and a lot of dumb luck are going to be your best chances for survival. I'd like to point out that this is all conjecture, I hope I never have to put any of this into practice, although I intend to if such need ever arises.

in our class, when someone knocks on the door (usually a person who is constantly late anyway.), people simply comment ''oh it must be the shooter.''

The number of comments saying "lol no i'd be the gunner hur hur" is pathetic.
