Basically, England (not the UK) won the football world cup. Once. A long time ago. But they beat Germany doing it so naturally it's become a big point of pride. There is also a fun little song about it.

"Two word wars and one world cup, do dah. Do, dah. Two world wars and one world cup, oh de do dah day!"

However, the sad truth is that England is one of four countries that only won the cup one time. Those being England, Spain, Uruguay, and France. Argentina have won it twice. Germany have won it three times. Italy have won it four times. And Brazil have won it five times, making them one of the best countries in the world at football, the most popular sport in the world. Which is quite the triumph.

However on top of that, England have never gotten closer than fourth place to the cup since wining it whilst Germany almost always makes it to 2nd or 3rd. Since 1954 there have only been three world cups where Germany haven't been in the top four rankings.

Basically the joke of that world cup is England suck at football, just like they do at every other sport they ever invented (except Cricket but nobody cares), yet they still cling to their one, meagre victory over a country which (sporting-wise) couldn't care less about them, being more focussed on Argentina and Brazil.

It's the equivalent of Phanact acting superior to ************ because one time he got a comment with 100 thumbs.

As an English, it annoys me hearing every 4 years 'ooh, lets be like 1966

NO!

its embarrassing that we only one it once, in the 60s We still had colonies then it was so long ago in a match where 2 of our goals were a bit suspect, We were cheated out of '86, but thats another story The ONLY reason why i want England to win in Brazil is so we can stop going on about that ONE thing ages ago

sorry about that rant, this annoys me more than it should

It's because of a societal norm (which used to be a very strict rule) that's been passed down from the Karlmar Union (a union between Denmark, Norway and Sweden, where the king resided n Denmark). The norm was called Jante-loven (The Jante-law) which pretty much stated "Don't think you're better than anyone, don't try to act proud of yourself, etc etc.". It's not a law per-ce just a social norm passed down from a society in which pride and over abundent self-fulfillment was heavily loooked down upon. Therefore people became more timid and quiet.

Don't some Euro countries already have pre-approved names or something like that? Anything else must be petitioned for.

At the very least I know many have verboten lists. Forbidden names and whatnot.

If you mean 'Euro' countries as in countries which use the Euro as their currency? Less than 6. Also a lot of other countries seem to do this, Japan, China, New Zealand, etc. Also some American states.

You can kind of agree with some of their logic though. If we could name our children anything we wanted, someone is bound to eventually name their child Holocaust, ******, or Miley Cyrus. All idiotic names in my opinion.

Allright, I stand corrected:
There once were a set of rules regarding the curvature of cucumbers (and bananas), but they are no longer in effect

The regulation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_Regulation_(EC)No2257/94

Maybe they're harder to transport without breaking? I mean, a straight cucumber fits nicely in boxes where the likeliness of damaging them by breaking is low, say compared to a faboulusly curly one. Cucumbers are a gros import/export so they need to be able to keep most of them unharmed or else they can't be sold.
