You cannot really compare them, SV is a video editing and montaging is there even such a word? and AE is for small clips that require VFX.
I use both: When SV restricts me from something, I do it in AE.

AAE is hands down better! Sony Vegas is more video editing while AAE is VFX and animation driven.

Sony Vegas makes easy editing go by very quickly, I used it in my High School video class and it made editing 24 hours of video that me and another student shot soooo simple it only took me about 4 hours total

SV is a lot more user friendly but is very restricting. AAE's interface at first glance looks like a foreign language but can be your best friend once learned. I say AAE hands down.

The other 20% for me is spent stress eating and thinking about how I've chosen the wrong career path.

I'd say more like 50% of coding is like that. The other 50% is searching things up on google.
