Same. I don't know if you saw it too but I remember a post from way back that told a story about a step dad who cancelled her ungrateful step daughter's wedding at the last minute, because the deadbeat "real" father showed up just in time for the wedding, and the mom and daughter basically were going to use him as a human ATM. I just think it's great to see the averse to that situation in this picture.
>The story was certainly very pat, leaning heavily on deeply entrenched stereotypes of shiftless women and the meal-ticket men they routinely drain dry. Every character in it occupied a single dimension, either a long-suffering man-wallet or a callous woman with dollar signs in her eyes
>Whether or not the narrative represented events that once occurred (or was simply the product of an active, misogynist imagination)
Inverse implies that. Reverse implies that the new scenario is in some way backwards compared to the original, such as if the stepfather cancelled the wedding prior to the appearance of the biological father.
Nah man, inverse is totally not appropriate in this case, plus it fits awkwardly into this as an expression. Inverse implies some kind of relational mathematical context to what he's describing. Reverse is a much less obtuse way to describe what he's trying to get across.
He's right, man. A swapping of positions/situations is inverse. Technically reverse does not properly fit that scenario, as it's more related to a changing of directions. Inverse is the more appropriate term here.
I thought it went " the road to he'll is paved with good intentions"
I guess everyone has there own version of it. carry on, have a nice day, you can do it.
The Kim line just wants to unify Korea as one strong, powerful nation of one strong, powerful people.
All had good intentions and did horrible things, seen as "necessary" for the fulfillment of greater good. I mean if you wanna split hairs each went insane with power but in his head, his actions were still justified as "good"
'Pure intentions" are subjective to individual taste. What we define as good depends on the society we're in. Some societies see it good that a boy learns to kill at a young age. Others are horrified at the idea of allowing any untrained/undisciplined adult access to a gun.
I'd say that, considering this, while your point still stands as an entirely different philosophy and outlook on life, that the small acts of kindness and generosity towards another creature's immediate needs which don't require any more intent than to bring happiness to that other creature and can be done without thought to one's own personal gain as a result of the good deed are better than the intentions of someone operating on a far grander scale.
Because there's no sense of "I" when you're anonymously giving a hot meal or coat to a homeless person. There's no sense of "me" when you're risking your life to save a mule drowning in a flood. All you care about is that the other person is ok.
Knowledge can be corrupted by bias and ignorance can lead to good.
All the science of Hitler's day was trying to point to one race being superior in every way. Eugenics was and still is a thing.
Knowing their then-government was mildly corrupt lead Pol Pot and Stalin to start up their militant regimes. But had he never known, they'd both just be farm boys in a country that was neither horrifyingly bad nor amazingly good. Both quite unintentionally made their countries far worse with the knowledge that the old government was subjectively bad.
There is no good or evil, only our perceptions of it. Collective morality is a good thing, though. It's what separates humanity from more primitive beasts that kill each other just for a slightly increased chance of sex.
Nazi "science" was all pseudo-science, it was a lie and therefore was ignorance, and it was how the Nazi party managed to convince a portion of Germany that they were doing the right thing. The only reason Pol Pot and Stalin were able to rise to power with the knowledge that their governments were corrupt is because their people believed the lies they told about their own intentions. Their people were able to be fooled into giving them too much power which allowed them to institute their totalitarian regimes. Yes knowledge can be used for evil, but only other people willing to do the right thing with the same level of knowledge or more knowledge can stop it. Most evil doers commit acts of evil out of ignorance that what they are doing is wrong because of how it hurts more people than it helps. Thus, knowledge is ultimately good, and ignorance is ultimately evil. Furthermore, it has been proven that everyone is born with a certain sense of empathy. The knowledge that everyone else feels the same physical and emotional feelings as ourselves because of the same causes is knowledge instilled in us by an early age due to our personal experiences since birth. That being said, right and wrong is NOT subjective when it comes to causing pain, emotional or physical. Causing undue pain to someone for the purpose of selfish reasons is undisputedly evil.
