A question about how Anti-Vaxxers raise
Disclosure: I do have Aspergers but I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my late teens. I think I'm handling it OK, but my social skills are meh and my conflict/unexpected-scenario resolution skills sometimes suck.
I honestly don't know who to ask so I'm asking here. I'm not talking about vaccines itself (and I really really really hope this doesn't end in a flamewar), I just want to know how do devout Anti-Vaxxers treat their children if they have been diagnosed with (or have the symptoms of) Autism or ASD?
Do they accept that they failed or do they keep fighting to "cure" their child? Do they treat their child as a damaged good/write off or do they accept that their child is now different but is still the child they love?
And most importantly: do they even try to ensure that their child has the emotional and social support that the kid needs to develop (such as behavioral therapy), or do they cart the child off to the next promising fix who will magically make their kid instantly perfect (but the parents don't even bother with emotional support and behavior training in the meantime)?
I am worried that many of the anti-vaxxers that have ASD kids simply believe that they are stuck with a "bad" child while they deserved a perfect little angel, and therefore they don't bother with making sure that the kid has the developmental support because they believe in a magical cure that will effectively instill years of behavioral learning along with rewriting the kid's personality to conform to social expectations.
I don't really care how you thumb this, though a lot of red thumbs would kill my rating and hide this from being seen by more people who could potentially have a perspective to add.
Preferably personal experience with a person like that or a friend that knows someone like that.
