(11/27/2014) [-] booker t. washington a pretty cool guy. resolved to learn how to read as a slave child, saved up every cent after he was released to go to college, later in life built a university to teach blacks both book smarts and a trade so they can be productive members of the community with his own money and donations. worked himself to death running it.

I have a hard time saying Malcolm X wasn't rational in his views. You gotta keep in mind what he was responding to. Besides the basic civil rights stuff, people were still openly lynching black people and even fire-bombing black churches. He advocated responding to aggression with aggression as a means of self-defense. In addition, he advocated for separation as a peaceful means to resolve the conflict, something advocated by Frederick Douglass. He was certainly extreme in his views, but I can't say he was irrational.

We are seeing the embodiment of this ignorance-glorifying racecard-pulling culture that has thrived because no one has had the guts to speak out against it.

Shows that skin is just a marker of the culture you were raised in, and not how smart or well opinionated you can potentially be.
We just need to encourage these black communities to act less ghetto.

The tone of the discussion needs to change from "a proud black culture struggling against racist institutions", to "we gave them equality, but we didn't get rid of the animosity and poverty-centered culture well enough".

mightydog (11/27/2014) [-] all the social justice people can be handled in a short amount of time. publicly challenge them to act on their words instead of hide behind them. and yes the police state is more of a fall back plan or a get **** done right now plan. the best thing to do is give everyone a common enemy. in all of history nations have put aside differences to band together and challenge a threat. maybe instead of glorifying all this "thug life" ******** we could glorify an old american dream of work hard to make your dream come true. if we had enough role models to show this younger generation that the problem would stop.

There are lots of rational black people, but we never hear about them. Black people who have honest jobs, don't commit crimes and act calm don't make the news.
