that being said I had a superficial looking cut on my thumb I waited an hour (it was numb) then I was sent to "minor injures" waited another hour then was seen by a doctor who took one brief look, went pale & had me anaesthetised. I was later told I had cut two main nerves, my tendon & the artery so that was fun.

Huh. So it was bleeding the whole time or what? That should be a pretty minor artery. I mean, I know it will bleed a lot, every artery does, but still.

it's true it's a minor artery but the fact that mine got reattached means I can still play X-box if I had waited another hour they probably would have taken my thumb away, It didn't bleed that much because I was holding in tight

That's good that you were smart about it. It's shocking how many random areas in your body can get hurt and **** you up for a long time.

I'm a functional hypochondriac: if it's more than 3mm deep OR I can see tubes I go straight to hospital & I know the NHS gets **** but I have always been seen as quickly as they deem appropriate (true they nearly cost me my thumb) and been really nice so hurrah for the NHS

you do have an artery in your thumb
that is why you don't check a pulse with your thumb as you are feeling your own artery pumping blood instead of the other person's artery pumping/not pumping blood.

When I was 6 I passed out from blood loss waiting in the ER for over 5 hours. I'd split my chin open and had been bleeding profusely from my face for almost an hour before I went in because I was too scared of going inside to get help as I might have gotten the floors dirty.

My sister died because waiting for a doctor. When he finally did show up, he accused her of "playing possum".
A different, more competent doctor saw her later, and rushed her to the ER where she promptly went comatose and never woke up.
Trust doctors, but get a second opinion.

...couldn't you sue the first doctor? I feel like someone could definitely go to jail for that. Or at the very least lose his license.

My mom tried it for a while, but for some reason she stopped.
I don't know if she didn't have a case for whatever reason, or if she just couldn't handle it.
She still refuses to talk about it, and I don't press the issue because it really affects her - hard.

That's alright, it was years ago and I was just a kid so I barely remember.
Just don't be afraid to listen to your gut when it matters. A second opinion could save a life.

This seems to assume people care about other people, which they don't. Especially when the person is in pain.

Or you're so ****** that they don't see it as worth the effort to try and save you when there are others with a much better chance who also need attention.
