England has been a religious country for the longest time. Committing suicide is considered to be one of the gravest sins one could ever accomplish, so by forbidding them to commit suicide, they were doing them a favor.   
   
"Oh you want to die? Please don't commit suicide, you'll go to Hell if you do. Here, let us give you a death sentence. You get to die, and you go to Heaven. You're welcome."   
   
At least that's how I like to see it.

I'm not talking about how England is nowadays, but how it used to be. I'm pretty sure that what the content refers to hasn't been made 10 years ago. A couple centuries ago, they were still pretty damn religious.

It's against the religion of a catholic. I believe England was protestant. Still, I'm sure they didn't encourage it.

Protestant yes. Though I never really knew the differences between the two. But yeah, it would be weird to actually encourage it.

I also believed this point of view but then the person who executes the person who attempted suicide goes to Hell for killing another human being, even if it's "mercy killing" because I don't think the laws of the bible apply to our human laws.
