looks nice and all, but that's the last thing i'm gonna be doing when it's "2 AM" and i'm busting for a quick snack.

No, you make this at a lazy saturday morning. This makes about 8 portions. you eat one or two, then separate the rest of them in either freezing bags or tupperware contrainers.
When you are fixing for a snack at 2 am, you pull one of this delicious things out of the freezer and throw it into microwave and you have a high quality home made chili in a few minutes, instead of some fast food crap.

I just made this.
The answer is that I'll be waking up at 2AM because this has over 2 TBSPs of chili powders

I'm not sure, but i think it's called 2 am chili, because you let it simmer for as long as you can contain your inner carnivore? thats my theory anyways

Only Gavin could twerk his lips like that

Start making it when home from work, school, whatever. Leave to simmer, eat when crazy hungry.

The thing I've always hated about this is that the idiot throws away the pre packaged chili seasoning... and then uses a bunch of processed, preservative laced seasoning of the SAME name brand.

Perhaps it's not about the brand but, I dunno, the actual ingredients?

He's actually pretty down to earth. A lot of his recipes are based on ideas from friends or things he eats himself. He's really cool. c:

i didn't mean it in a negative way, just brushing the comment aside hehe ^^
I actually own the cook book myself, but it would be a dick move to put any of those recipes up, and probably not legal either i dunno

Premade chili mixes are usually quite bad. With few exceptions they are just empty heat with no flavor.

This is a good recipe, let me just make a few suggestions if you plan to make it.
1: Buy really good spices. McCormic spices are wallmart quality, and not that much better then just buying a spice mix. Also if you look at the spice and it has any ingredients except the actual spice, its crap. best thing is to buy whole spices and grind them yourself before cooking, but ain't no one has time for that, so that aside try a good quality brand like Frontier
2: Add about a tablespoon of paprika to this. It adds a lot of peppery flavor for no adittional heat. Chopping up some jalapenos adds flavor AND heat.
3: Let it simmer on low heat for ATLEAST 2 hours. 3-5 for truly magnificent results.
4: if its getting to dry from long simmering add a bit of beef broth, it won't change flavor or water it down, but will add more moisture
 and
5: get marbled beef and don't drain it completely after browning. beef fat carries a lot of flavor.

Enjoy

When I'm cooking and buying the ****, I buy quality. I really prefer Spice Island brand of spices. Expensive as ****, but ******* worth it. I'll have to look up frontier and get some if they have what I'm looking for.

GET THE **** OUT OF MY KITCHEN BRO! I have a jar of their smoked paprika in my spice rack! Couple that with some of their ground mustard and you can make a top tier level goulash that'd make even the stoutest of Hungarian's proud.

If you ever have a chance to get some game meat, boar is best, it makes an amazing hunter's goulash.
It takes a bit more smoked paprika then a normal recipe and add a bit of red wine, but boy its like a freaking song in your mouth.

I'll have to try and get some. I live in an area that doesn't have boar but we have tons of deer. I'd even try bear too. Thanks for the tip!

There's no beans in chili. Chili beans is a separate thing.

My mum makes the absolute best chili (even complete strangers say that it's about the best they've had when she brings some round to church or social gatherings).

But, you know what, this looks pretty awesome. I've never heard of anyone mixing crackers and cheese into their chili before, but it sounds pretty good.

You've convinced me, OP, I'll try to remember to make this when I pick up the shopping next.
