Besides, it's 13/12 because it goes day Then month
#17 to #1 - thepizzadevourer ONLINE (12/14/2015) [-]
I like the month/day/year system because it makes it easy to sort things. If the day comes first, you have a whole bunch of files from various months and years that have the same day date all piled next to each other. If it sorted by month, things stratify a little and it's easier to locate things.
User avatar #59 to #17 - tanitakavirius (12/14/2015) [-]
For sorting files i use Year-month-day-(hours if needed)
User avatar #23 to #17 - achphoenix (12/14/2015) [-]
or you could sort by date and not alphabetically?
User avatar #21 to #17 - emiyashirou ONLINE (12/14/2015) [-]
Even with that argument, Month/Day/Year is still retarded versus Year/Month/Day.
User avatar #22 to #21 - wraithguard (12/14/2015) [-]
The year typically gets put on the end because most people don't plan things out across multiple years. They think of things in terms of what months they happen in, and then on what day they happen within that month. Most schedules that require planning like this just repeat each year.
User avatar #19 to #17 - arsenalthegunners (12/14/2015) [-]
...well that makes a whole lot of sense.

I'm glad it's month/day/year where I am, it is much better. In conversation, I would say "it is December 13th, not 13 December. So nah
User avatar #85 to #14 - shorea ONLINE (12/14/2015) [-]
not that you can say it any way you wish it, doesn't matter what's written.
User avatar #50 to #14 - yunoknow (12/14/2015) [-]
then why do they say fourth of july?

4th of July is the name of the Holiday, which is what you'd use if you were talking about something pertaining to the celebration of the holiday.

Otherwise you'd say July 4th
User avatar #125 to #90 - yunoknow (12/15/2015) [-]
so would you write it as 04/07/2015 since the system goes by the way you say it?
User avatar #128 to #125 - meganinja ONLINE (12/15/2015) [-]
No, I'd write it 4th of July.

B/c it stands out more then July 4th, and since it's not the day but more the celebration that the name goes under then anything else.

Yeah but what you say has no ****** sense.. It's the actual "volume" of TIME that matters not how many possible numbers/symbols you can place on whatever position writing from left to right... Days have 24 Hours thus they are the smallest "bag of numbers/layer of the piramid) ... Months have .... and so on

i can ms paint too
User avatar #119 to #118 - davidteninch (12/14/2015) [-]
In both cases you're just listing a set of numbers from smallest to largest. I also like the American system when sorting dates.

US:
1/12/1945
2/11/1945
4/6/1945
8/2/1945

Europe:
12/1/1945
11/2/1945
6/4/1945
2/8/1945

When using the European system, the second number in the date determines where it ends up on list when sorting dates in chronological order. If the second number in an ordered sequence dictates the position of an item, why not just have it first?

#121 to #119 - ketiw (12/14/2015) [-]
Okey let's explain with a different narative...Concerning knowing wha's the date... You want to know probably the DAY of the month because you don't forget what month is it or what year is it... So when you look at the paper and what to know the date you just can read the first 1/2 digits and you are set. You don't have to read the whole date because you know what's the current month.. i hope i did'nt confuse you but what matters most of the time is the day of the month so it's logical to put it in first place.

In my opinion, the best way is year/month/day because it's easy to order the dates in a list.
But yeah, still better than month/day/year

In a conversation it's grammatically better to use m/d/y for English anyway. in canada we also uses mdy, for me this is one of the few times I agree with America being backwards to the rest of the world with there day to day stuff.

13th of October = October 13th.
Conversation isn't a decider here.

I hate this picture so much because it causes people to believe that there isn't logic behind the US system. It goes 12 months of the year, 28-31 days of the month, infinite years. It goes by order of the number of options. Months have the lowest number of options, days have the middle, and years have the most.
#117 to #53 - innocentbabies (12/14/2015) [-]
I think it's more for filing/organization, because month is more important than day in that regard, but people don't give a **** what's more useful. That's also the reason for many of the American spelling differences. Printing used to be way more expensive, so we dropped unnecessary letters like the "u" in "colour" to cut down on costs.
#97 to #53 - anon (12/14/2015) [-]
in that case you placing your minutes, hours and seconds incorrectly...

I prefer this way too. binary is the universal language so if we can we should use numbers first.
User avatar #35 to #14 - GnRNoD ONLINE (12/14/2015) [-]
It's the other way around in spanish and it would sound weird saying the month first.

hoy es catorce de diciembre.
hoy es diciembre catorce. (it literally makes no sense)

So I guess it depends on the language.
User avatar #26 to #14 - iqequalzero ONLINE (12/14/2015) [-]
You only say it like that because you use that system.

Here in Denmark we would say "Det er den 13 December", basically "It is the 13th of December"
#31 to #26 - theydontlikeu (12/14/2015) [-]
"here in denmar we dont say "it is the 13th of december" we say "december har voldtaget min mor og vanæret min hundeslæde" which means," the 13th of december is only once a year", and i think thats beautiful.

well, do you always say "Month" "Day", because for most people I know, when talking about dates, at least within a month away, they will just say it's the Xth.
